But to categorically say they are good or bad is foolish. Griz seem to have a pretty good hand this year. Improvise. Adapt. Overcome.

McD seems to be of that mold. Once he finds his rhythm he is as good as any QB I've seen in the FCS. It would be nice to have a big lead at Portland so we could play Ah Yat some but we have a 1 QB system and that QB is McDowell.
Luckily we escaped the dirty players at Suck State with him healthy and we should have him ready to rock for these 2 important games that are left

I think Pease bears a lot of responsibility for slow starts. Their first play from scrimmage was the predictable run up the middle for two yards. Play two was the lateral pass to the sidelines without numbers for blocking, a loss of a four. Now they’re facing a third and long. McD has to scramble against a team that brings pressure and viola, a 3/0.
Why not a pass over the middle to one of the adjunct tackles? You know, guys who don’t actually exist in the game plan for anything but holding calls. Which is what punctuated the first play of the next series, negating a plus one run for nearly ten.
You’re right in that he’s a rhythm player, and getting him up to speed looks like it would be the right thing to do. I would suggest he’s ready to run the offense as is. Find the weakness and go at it right away. Here’s a crazy thought, why not trot Ah Yat out there and let him go down the field right away. Two unproductive series out of the gate aren’t going to be helpful when playing a team who can put up thirty or more a game. Possessions are too precious to surrender - even if the defense is playing well.

And maybe they weren’t feeling like NoCo was going to be much of a test, but things were technically still in doubt in a game where it took the whole quarter before the offense found its footing, against an 0-7 opponent.
Sorry, but this isn’t Vidlak we’re talking about. There are no factions now, even if there were four games back. Everyone is pulling in the same direction and no one would begrudge the coaching staff with getting some on the job training for the kid before things get out of hand.
Either that or Hauck is just BSing about the desire to have a two QB system.

It makes no sense not playing him last week. When we had a game won, you could've got him in to get him extra reps and also protect McDowell from getting an injury. But leaving McDowell in wasn't smart at all. Especially if we want to keep McDowell healthy.

I don't know how much "work" or "reps" Ah Yat was gonna get. All McDowell did was hand off in the 4th quarter after the 97 yard TD pass. He wasn't getting injured. These are the 14 plays run AFTER the 97 yard TD pass:
Gillman (6)
Gillman (32)
Gillman (4)
Gillman (14)
Ostmo (9)
Ostmo (10, TD)
Childs (10)
Childs (1)
Childs (12)
Childs (2)
Childs (7)
Childs (5)
Childs (7)
Childs (-4, Turnover on downs)

I absolutely think he was BSing about a 2 QB system. I know I've been a big Bobby Hauck homer on here since I joined, but there is nothing about "Bobby Hauck" and "2 QB System" that makes sense to me. Even from what he has said, it was more of a competition than a combination.
You're right, Ah Yat didn't come in when it was out of hand against NOCO. I'd be okay if he came in when it was not, that was badly phrased by me in my post. However, I absolutely don't want him to get one of the first two or three series, though. McDowell's confidence as the starter has been powerful for the team. Protect that.

I couldn’t care less how Hauck labels things. I was hopeful they had learned their lesson from the eggs/basket situation they got themselves into last season. I think Ah Yat is more than a step above where they were at last season, but his experience is limited. Anything they can do to let him gain experience, is going to pay off if he should happen to need to drive the car upcoming.

Maybe I am just behind the times. I just have never known any fan base, other than ours these days, to call for bringing backup QBs in early in the game to get them experienced. It seems preposterous to me, but I have been very, very wrong before. (I did pick Ryan Simpson as my offensive breakout player of the year, after all)
