13 Seed vs Syracuse

Hi Stoney. Thanks for posting. Montana is a very young team with only 2 seniors (one lost to foot injury-Ward). In OOC Montana lost to tourney teams Colorado State by 7, South Dakota State by 1 in 2 OT's, Davidson by 6 in OT all without our starting point guard Cherry (is getting NBA looks) and, at the mid-major level, losing your starting senior point guard was a huge deal. The Griz will not have the size that 'Cuse has but can run so I am hoping for a Louisville type performance...wishful thinking. Don't really have a big that can bang all game with you and that is how you will run away with it - inside. Have a 7 footer but he is a freshman and Hutchison is Montana's other big but he is a 6' 9" junior. Will be a fun time to watch and having it be the late game is nice to be able to watch after work!!

Thanks for the reply, didn't know Ward was injured. Damn, you guys can hit the free throws, 77% as a team.. We will have to keep you off the line for sure. Personally I think it's a bad pairing for us as you can also hit the three, that'll come in handy against the zone. Looks like it'll be a good game but I think we'll prevail by extending the zone out and daring you to beat us inside..

I'm a bit confused by your post though, you lost your starting PG? I thought Mathias Ward was a PF....? Cherry isn't hurt is he?

Cherry missed almost all of the non-conference season with a broken bone in his foot. Have to think that having him would have made a huge difference in those earlier games... It's very possible we could have come away with a W when we played @ Colorado State (Close loss), and also at home against South Dakota State.

He re-injured his foot against Davidson again (feared to be broken again) but it turned out to be much less serious this time, and he's back now. So we only had him for part of that game (lost in OT).

Ward was our starting PF too. He's unfortunately done for the year. His last game was against Idaho State (the game right before we played Davidson).

You missed the point.

Respect the fact that your opponent is where they are. And if you've never played them before, just show some BASE respect, the kind you'd show a stranger on the street.

And cocky and confident is fine, but showing a tiny bit of humility also makes sense when you've had your ass handed to you by the likes of Vermont and others, and you're not exactly on a tear.

Fans on a message board don't exactly represent the views of the players, do they? If so, then the Griz players are arrogant a-holes in football who don't respect any other Big Sky opponent, and the players think they should move up to FBS and become Boise State.

What do you mean by "the likes" of Vermont and why is it ok for you to diss Vermont but you get upset when Cuse fans diss you? Just sayin' every team's fans think they are the best don't they?

No, they don't. For instance I don't believe UM is the better team here as I made clear in a couple different posts. We know who we are. We haven't played anything close to the gauntlet you ran in the BEC. SU is a storied program with tons of history and piles of tournament wins. Base level respect though is a different issue, IMO. Maybe that's asking too much.

And by "the likes" of Vermont, what I meant -and thought was obvious- is the fact that they were a team that SU was to have beaten handily, according to everyone including all the SU posters. It was in no way a diss to the Catamounts I like them, know people from there and enjoyed watching their run starting with TJ Sorrentine hitting consecutive 3 pointers and taking you down.

And if by upset you mean making a couple irritated posts -ON THE UM BOARD- then yeah I guess so. If you want to bitch about it, go back to your house where they apparently do not allow the opposition to even register. I don't know why any UM fan would want to though since you will just get hammered about how much you suck, don't deserve the seed the committee gave you, and probably shouldn't be there. That is what 90% of the posts there say and/or imply.

Anyway, that was just heat of the moment, but since you asked...

I read a few times in this thread about negative comments on the "Syracuse board". FTR, we have at least four fan boards where conversations occur.....three of them most avoid like the plague.

A little history for everyone. The last time that Syracuse played a big sky team was in 1997 in the first round of the NCAA tourney. Cuse was a 4 seed and were trailing by ( I think) 3 at half. They ended us beating the Big Sky team by 11 on there way to the final four.

The score was 38-34 at the half, but the Syracuse put the pedal down in the 2nd half outscoring the Bobcats 50-21, on their way to a 88-55 win. Quadre Lollis scored 26 points in that game, and shot an amazing 12-13. But he had no help, the rest of the team went 11-46. Shooting was pretty much the difference as the Orange shot 57% for the game. Rest of the stats were fairly even.

It must have been a technical problem. The admins and forum members usually welcome opponent's to the board.

They always allow good natured back and forth between posters...but if you come to flame or troll....you won't last long.
