In OOC Montana lost to tourney teams Colorado State by 7, South Dakota State by 1 in 2 OT's, Davidson by 6 in OT all without our starting point guard Cherry (is getting NBA looks) and, at the mid-major level, losing your starting senior point guard was a huge deal. The Griz will not have the size that 'Cuse has but can run so I am hoping for a Louisville type performance...wishful thinking. Don't really have a big that can bang all game with you and that is how you will run away with it - inside. Have a 7 footer but he is a freshman and Hutchison is Montana's other big but he is a 6' 9" junior. Will be a fun time to watch and having it be the late game is nice to be able to watch after work!!
Thanks for the reply, didn't know Ward was injured. Damn, you guys can hit the free throws, 77% as a team.. We will have to keep you off the line for sure. Personally I think it's a bad pairing for us as you can also hit the three, that'll come in handy against the zone. Looks like it'll be a good game but I think we'll prevail by extending the zone out and daring you to beat us inside..
I'm a bit confused by your post though, you lost your starting PG? I thought Mathias Ward was a PF....? Cherry isn't hurt is he?
Cherry missed almost all of the non-conference season with a broken bone in his foot. Have to think that having him would have made a huge difference in those earlier games... It's very possible we could have come away with a W when we played @ Colorado State (Close loss), and also at home against South Dakota State.
He re-injured his foot against Davidson again (feared to be broken again) but it turned out to be much less serious this time, and he's back now. So we only had him for part of that game (lost in OT).
Ward was our starting PF too. He's unfortunately done for the year. His last game was against Idaho State (the game right before we played Davidson).
