All I could think after the first drive today was, this is the same game and the same team I saw a month ago. The offense came out flat in the first series, and they made some nice plays but failed to convert when it mattered. That's one thing that really hasn't changed this year--if they come out flat, we're done. That was the case today. It's perplexing. If you look at the games they put together vs the Cats, USD, and most of the SUU game, and what they were able to do on offense, it's hard to understand the struggles on offense on the road, especially today when so much was on the line, and there was reason to believe they would play with their hair on fire (which I only saw on defense).
If you look at the game in November, UM outgained ewoo 6.8 yards per play to 6.7. Today, it was 5.5 UM, 4.9 ewoo. Gregorak's defense held up pretty damn well when you consider that there was a 10 minute TOP deficit. I was impressed with how well they held up, again, with an anemic offense that made enough plays to get in position to score but was ultimately unable to get it done inside the 20. With all the badasses they have on that defensive crew, they just weren't able to make up for an offense that couldn't put up six points when they needed to, though again the UM D held ewoo well below their season average. They wore down and it was a valiant effort. I am officially on-board if Haslam decides Ty is the guy. He had his guys ready, and I'm confident he can do this if he's hired.
I think it's important to say though, thank you Griz for an exciting season even in what most UM fans (at least younger ones) would consider a "down year." It will be soon that we will be back on top, Baldwin will be gone, along w Left-Eye Lisa and Kupp, and this will all be a distant memory. And we will again just be better than the eagles. Enjoy it while you can ewoo fans...your run will end sooner than you think, and it will of course be courtesy of the Griz. Not to worry eagle trolls, I will bookmark this myself and remind you when the time comes.
Lastly, THANK YOU Jordan Johnson for sticking with this! After what you were forced to endure, I was pleasantly surprised to see you bounce back. A lesser man would've said f*ck it. You stuck it out, and when I was your age I would have never made it. In every game where we needed a spark, you were there. Best of luck in whatever you choose to do going forward. Thanks for being a Griz.
