What positioning? What more could-should UM do? Some of you act like UM is unaware of what is going on with football and realignment? UM has been positioning itself for the future for 20 years. Do you not listen to anyone in the athletic department or read what they say? You want UM to move up so badly that you are blind to what they are doing and to reality.
Ag Tech is another big contributor.North Dakota State just might have the oil industry’s check book backing them up.
What more could-should UM do? Increase enrollment with highly attractive degree programs like the PA. Period. Full stop.
Engineering programs are losing popularity with ai. The liberal arts which UM is already focused on is gaining back popularity as technical degrees entry level job market is taken over by ai.
I thought the same about Engineering and AI but that is not true.
Over the last two years UM has added degree programs in Occupational Therapy and now Physician Assistant (starting this Fall). There have been rumors for the last couple years that UM is looking to start the first med school in the state of Montana and adding these two programs is a step in the right direction. I actually don't even know if the rumors are true that UM wants to start a med school or not, and if it's true I have no idea what the process is for adding a med school but I think that would be a huge addition for UM! They gotta really pursue that IMO.
You can get your RN (associates degree) at Missoula College.
Already mentioned but there is alot more that UM could be doing both in terms of Education to increase enrollment, fundraising for the specific goal to cover moving up fees (I'd happily donate to that if it was garunteed for the $$ to only go to that), being a bit more vocal to encourage both of the above and start people talking in the sports world etc. You can always do more even if it's just being more visible and vocal.
Out of state enrollment has been declining at UM which likely is the group of students whose interest level will change the most from FCS to FBS.
I don't either, but I believe if you don't move now the opportunity won't be there later.

The problem isn't needing more educated nurses. The problem is getting them to work in the rural areas. Im guessing montana is in the same boat as alabama. 70% of our population lives in 30% of the state while 80% of our nurses work in those areas. That leaves the other 20% to cover 70% of the state and they are spread too thin. Our governor started a special high school in Alabama solely for future nurses with the specific plan to encourage them to work in the rural areas of the state.
Thats because the opportunity is solely based off hope. You have some and Helena doesn't, at least on this topic anyway.
In Arizona there is a critical shortage of nurses everywhere with the highest need in rural AZ. Rural AZ has the most critical staffing shortages but there are plenty of nursing positions with sign on bonuses and relocation assistance in Phoenix and Tucson too. ER’s are short staffed on nurses across the whole state. All 3 colleges in the state UofA, ASU and NAU offer nursing programs but it still isn’t enough to fill the demand.
