Griz Soccer 2026

It’s like the wild, Wild West out there rn. If you have the money, you get the transfer players.

I do not know the UM situation currently- but last I heard, like most non-P4 schools, Griz have ~14 full ride scholarships for a roster of 28 players. (This initial info was under Coach Cito, who carried 30+ on roster).

The winning culture, tight knit university, and unique beauty of Missoula are enough to attract a certain type of player/their parents. (And another giant plus, currently, is the opportunity to get playing time right away).
This mostly attracts 2026, 2027, & 2028 players.

Unfortunately, the reality is many players in the portal require a “full ride” or significant financial contribution to sign on at any school.

I hope Coach Gore has the admin support to get creative with some offers (WUE, academic merit, etc) and take care of transfer player needs for the 2026 season.

talking to fellow coaches oversea players are expensive to bring over and at times have student visa issues that requires them to leave the US for periods of time. If she verbally or signed, maybe why no official announcement from UM yet

The new NCAA rules now allow 28 full scholarships for both men's and women's soccer. Previously women were limited to 14 scholarships, and men's soccer was limited to 9.9 scholarships due to gender equity guidelines.

Yes, but not many schools and even some P4 schools can't afford to give 28 soccer scholarships. Idaho, NAU and ID State for example only had 10 full scholarships last year.

ASU & GCU campuses are 15-20 minutes apart. Would be surprised if she didn’t realize that as the schools play non-conference/scrimmage games against each other in several sports each year.

Hopefully Coach Gore’s dry British wit & charm will get her to UM - with help from the $40K Match funds and more of course!

Another wrinkle is international athletes on F-1 visas generally face significant restrictions on NIL earnings in the U.S.

For example, some very good Canadian transfer players on the UM soccer team (Kate Aitcheson, Molly Quarry) could not be included in the Good Ol Grizzlies NIL collective. In 2024, Chris announced the signing of an Australian U-17 National Team GK - who unfortunately never made it on to campus.

Has to be even more difficult these days to attract internationals if you can’t offer a player a full ride, inclusive of a living stipend, plus add’l NIL dollars

I'm curious how Coach Gore talked about Megan Sofield at Great Falls. Was it public conversation, possibly talking of an example of money needed for the soccer program - or did he quietly mention her to one or two soccer fans?

Hopefully not putting all the eggs in one basket, as each day the number of good players are signing to new teams

Was told it was public when he was interviewed on stage.
