New University president?

he still needs to pass a math class before he can officially be eligible.
Small administrative hurdle. Unless and until I get confirmation that VAJ is out of the running, I have no choice but to consider him a candidate. Oh, and if I get confirmation that he is out of the running, I will have no choice but to pull all support from UM and UM Athletics.

you have my full support. what are you going to do with all those extra dollars? something very socal, i suspect.

He has a very impressive Resume. I hope he is our guy!
This topic is well outside my wheelhouse.

What do we typically look for in a University President?

- Raising Money?
- Recruiter?
- Indirect Leadership?
- Academic Prowess?

When I look at this guy's resume, it is clear he has extensive student-centered leadership experience. It also looks like he may have never stepped foot off of a college campus in his entire adult life.

Perhaps that's a good thing?

All signs are pointing that way. If I hear a different name between now and tomorrow morning I’ll let everyone know! For now, feel free to review his LinkedIn profile!

From what I’ve heard it’s basically a forgone conclusion as long as they don’t completely botch the visit next week. Like GrizMN said, it’s very important that people weigh in and attend the forum next week!
All speculation until the name is announced, if it is the BSU president, that would be good and bad for athletics, the good, he is involved, went to congress to talk about NIL regulations and holds the BSU AD accountable, the bad, you might see him bring in BSU staff and overhaul the AD Dept this summer, BSU has a fantastic associate AD.

What’s wrong with that? People here (you included) have been clamoring for change in the walls of the Adams Center. I’m not opposed to shaking things up in the Athletic Department, but it has to be the right person. Boise State has a great Athletic Department that’s been pretty strong across the board. If he brought the Deputy AD with him, I’d be open to the idea.

You are correct though. He is very involved in Athletics, which I like. He also played a very large role in going to the Idaho Legislature and getting the Idaho-Boise State Football rivalry reinstated. I would welcome him with open arms to UM!

I should of phrased it better, would be bad if your a current employee in the AD Dept. Yes, the current Deputy AD has learned a lot from Jerimah Dickey, BSUs AD, he has seen the transition to the PAC and the 50 million upgrade to BSU's stadium and up grading the BSU women's locker room and stadium.

David Sirmon?

I'd be shocked if he was the finalist. That's pretty far outside the box.

I was thinking someone more along the lines of the interim president at Boise State. Or maybe even coaxing a guy like Thayne McCullough out of retirement.
Called it!

Good morning University of Montana,

I am pleased to share that Dr. Jeremiah Shinn is the presidential finalist who will visit campus on Monday and Tuesday, April 6-7.

Dr. Shinn currently serves as interim president at Boise State University.

During his visit, Dr. Shinn will participate in a series of meetings with faculty, staff, students and community members.

The visit includes an open forum with Dr. Shinn for the campus and the community at 3:30 p.m. Monday, April 6 in the University Center Ballroom. The open forum will be followed by a community reception with Dr. Shinn at 5 p.m., also in the UC Ballroom.

Dr. Shinn’s curriculum vitae and a detailed schedule of his campus visit are available on the UM Presidential Search webpage. Your engagement is an essential part of this important decision for the University’s next chapter of leadership, and I encourage all members of the campus and community to join us for these sessions to share their perspectives. This visit represents a vital step in the presidential search process and will help us gather the insights needed to make a final recommendation to the Board of Regents.

I am not in education and don't know what most of the positions in his resume are or what the duties mean, but I see something I like. He has had two stints at BSU, and in each one he changed roles several times. What this tells me is he is consistently excelling in the roles he's held, and is being recognized for that performance and being promoted.

While I will say, at first glance this guy seems to pass the eye test, but I guess the one question I would have for him is why isn’t he in the mix for the President job at BSU? By serving as Interim, does that mean he’s unable to pursue the job? Does he not want that job? Do they know something about him that we don’t know? That needs to be a topic of discussion on Monday!

I'd read the article linked in the twitter post a couple replies above yours - or just check it out here - it offers pretty good insight: https://gemstatechronicle.com/2026/03/the-future-of-boise-state/

I could give two shits what the guys political ideology is. As long as he can do the job at a high level, which appears he has in the interim, then who gives a shit? Look at his resume. The guy is a hell of a fundraiser. He constructed two dorms at Boise State just during his second stint which was only 3 years. He’s been the Enrollment Director there and they’ve grown their enrollment every year he’s been in the post. Plus he’s a strong supporter of Athletics. He went to Congress and advocated for NIL Reform and got the Idaho Legislature to reinstate the Idaho-Boise State Football game. Does this guy not check all the boxes we’re looking for? I don’t care if he voted for Trump 3 times or 0 times. Let’s hire the best person for the job, and he looks like a pretty good option to me!
