Very good listen the commissioner and her staff were in Fargo and visited with a radio host from wday- tv.. very interesting what she said about the p4 and g6 breaking away at the 11:30 mark..

Bs, if you've been paying attention at all to what is happening in the landscape of college football you'd see what most have for a while. FCS teams that take it seriously are looking to get the hell out.

The big boys in the FBS level football is clearly keeping an eye on teams at the FCS level, why do you think these teams like NDSU and Sacramento State were so driven to do whatever it took to get the hell out of the FCS?...

I know for a fact that UND is in talks with two FBS conferences right now and neither is the MAC or MWC.. figure it out.. and Illinois State is getting ready to bolt as well

Did you really just type "teams like NDSU and Scrote State" with a straight face? Lmao. The only thing that comp set has in common is the "state" in the name.

The MAC and/or the MWC have a less than 50% chance of existing in 5 years. NO ONE knows how the P4/G-whatever thing is gonna shake out. NDSU might be on the right side of that shift and have a chance to land at the bottom of whatever the Big 12 is at that point. Maybe. Scrote State will be a performing arts junior high with a ballet program where its football program used to be.

Its a calculated risk for NDSU. Its the end of the road for Scrote.

And "Dr." Wood will be driving for doordash.

i think it was a no brainer for NDSU to move up. They had major FCS fatigue as a fan base and were only filling up the Fargo dome half full for games. They had literallly nothing left to prove in FCS after being so dominant. Their fund raising and ability to generate $ wa only going to decrease if they stayed. Being able to go to MW as a football only was the dream scenario for them. Perfect timing and perfect invite.

My point on Sac St is that it’s literally none of that. They haven’t been dominant in FCS. They don’t have fan fatigue, they barely have fans. They lose millions of $ each year from football alone and have to be subsidized heavily my the university and school fees. They have no stadium and are going to sink 200M into one to make it better.

Then the deal they agreed to to join the MAC is insane. At this point, I’m wondering if they have a board of levelheaded people who honestly could sign off on it. 23M to join, no rev sharing or tv revenues, and they pay for all to travel to Sac for games. They weren’t making dollars on football to begin with and now they’re going to try to pull this off?

I’m just saying, I don’t think this is going to go very well for them at all.

I hope one day both the cats and Griz move up, but I hope they do it responsibly and not desperately. They will go together. That is the only way it will ever happen.
Who doesn't like their own ATM for a 5 year span where you don't need a PIN? The MACtors must be ecstatic.

I don't know who does the negotiating for Sac, but my God.....
They have who is probably the dumbest President of a U that I have ever seen. Starting with the panda reference, DEI much?
(MAC school president calls neighboring Mac school president) "I know what PT Barnum reputedly said way back when, but Holy Toledo."

Imagine making one of the worst moves “up” college football has ever seen. Picture being so clueless you view the MAC as a step up. Envision spending 20 million dollars and getting nothing in return for at a minimum 5 years. Then, to prove that you are really the bitch of this terrible league; picture them then forcing you to pay the way for all teams to visit your shit stadium. Just imagine looking at all this evidence and still thinking it’s a good idea. Picture thinking it is SUCH a great idea, that you go start a pole on a message board of a team that used to be in the league you are so happy to leave……..

It all sounds just mind bottling ridiculous right? But what if I told you that team was from California? Aaahhhh…………….
Dude, right? Even the College sports pundits are talking about how bad this move was.

Funny how the sac posters disappeared once the reality of how shitty this deal is settled in.
They went away from here, but I am still seeing a lot of their chirping about what a great move this is. They ONLY have to play four road games in the MAC was what one guy wrote that I saw. Like I said earlier though, how can you complain that you have to go to Montana twice every three years, but now rationalize traveling to all those places for weeknight games with no one in the stands is a much better deal? The lemons are very sweet in Sacramento!

NDSU pays $12.5M, forgo TV money for 6 years, and has a required spending floor if they don't win enough games. We pay $18M, forgo TV money for 5 years and pay travel subsidies for 4 games (which we would have to pay via game guarantees as an independent anyways). The point is, whenever you guys grow a ball sac and are ready to move up from JV then get ready to open up the check book, the market has been set.

Also don't forget to allocate some money for the additional sport programs, facilities, and scholarships needed to meet the FBS minimums, which you currently don't meet.

Cheers.

Montana football is a powerhouse in the Big Sky Conference. Congratulations! You’ve mastered a subdivision where half the league is fighting over bus budgets.

SAC is sitting in a top-20 media market in the most talent-rich state in America, Dr. Wood is looking at the math and realizing: “Oh. We can actually scale this.” Montana fans hear “FBS” and think it’s about pride. It’s about money. It’s about recruiting footprint. It’s about media value. It’s about institutional ceiling.

Sacramento has California recruiting within driving distance. Corporate sponsors who don’t sell tractor parts. An airport that connects to civilization. A growth trajectory tied to a major metropolitan economy.

Montana has snow games and nostalgia edits. A stadium that looks amazing on Instagram in October. A statewide population smaller than most California counties. Fans who think “we travel well” replaces structural advantages. And the funniest part? Montana fans genuinely believe passion is currency. That yelling loudly in Missoula somehow offsets geography and NIL funding pools.

Sacramento State is moving because the ceiling is higher than FCS allows. Montana hesitates because deep down, Griz fans know that once you leave the comfort of structural advantages like altitude, isolation, and tradition, you’re just another program trying to scrape to 6–6.

Ambition terrifies people who are comfortable. Sac State sees growth. Montana fans see risk. And nothing exposes insecurity faster than a fanbase insisting they could move up… but just don’t want to.

Huge difference between you and NDSU in how much money the programs have and how much money the programs generate then how many donors and supporters there are. Not to mention the product on the field, being absolutely dominant for the bison and not so much for you guys. Oh you guys paid 23 million by the way and there are college football experts all over the Internet and social media saying what an awful awful deal you got to the point where they’re shocked that you did it.

What you say is mostly true; there is no reason to have high pride in FCS/BSC membership. It's surprising that the SacSt advantages you document (and I agree with) could not have been tapped to have had a better experience and performance in their FCS tenure. It should have been easy.

Yet with exception of the three Taylor years SacSt was basically a BSC FB doormat with no better than middle-of-the-pack facilities, attendance and interest. You know, you've been there through it. 4-21 vs. Montana. How this changes so dramatically taking on the financial pressure and playing midwestern teams in midweek games escapes the outside world. It seems to be a tight group on the Wood bandwagon.

We wish you luck and we will follow you in pursuing your dreams. It's doubtful the MAC will be the answer; the question becomes whether this adventure can provide opportunity to become a candidate for either the MWC or the PAC.

And clearly the point flew well over your head. My post wasn't meant to claim that either deal was better or worse than the other. The point is no matter how successful a JV program is, it's going to cost a hefty entrance fee to join FBS. Despite NDSU's on-field dominance and engaged fanbase, it still cost them $12.5M and 6 years of TV money to get an invite.

Ironically enough you perfectly laid out why the "JV" term was used by Dr. Wood. Dr. Wood's use of it during the Reddit AMA was taken out of context; he was trying to articulate how the Sacramento area views the lower subdivision. Why would there be significant attention and investment into something viewed as JV? We weren't ever going to see significant corporate contributions and casual fan engagement when competing head to head with the Kings and Bay Area professional sports. Anyone that has ever lived in the Sacramento area understands this. That JV perception coupled with being in an un-tapped FBS market was a large driver in his move to go all in on getting an FBS invite.

But make no mistake about my use of the "JV" term. I'm using the "JV" term to denigrate the fact that we left you and the other JV cohorts behind.

Yeah, sure, that's why Fresno State, San Jose State and San Diego State are such national power houses. They just have to dial up that talent boy and they are right in the consideration for a national championship!

Good riddance to the rubbish.

Well let’s see, Fresno baseball won the natty in 2008, SDSU played for the men’s hoops natty 3 years ago…pretty sure those are the other two major men’s sports after football.

But let’s keep holding Sac State down 🙄

Good riddance is right…to Montucky! Enjoy those epic powerhouses of Southern Utah, Northern Colorado and NAU in the grand scheme of things!
