What kind of president are you Griz fans looking to be put in place?
Any potential canidates?
What if the new president is anti athletics?
When will the search begin?
Will Prsident want new AD?

I pretty much said we need a winner. Somebody who's the ultimate go getter! There's a survey where you can leave comments on what you'd like in the next president. I recommend you do!

I was told by a University staffer that the Regents decided NOT to do an interim President. And that they expect to name the NEW President within a couple of weeks. If this is true, it is happening amazingly fast. This process usually takes many months. In my opinion they hit on someone they really like and decided to fast-track the process. I would guess to have this happen this quicky that the applicant is someone already or previously employed in the Montana higher-ed system like a President of a sister U-system school. But that's just my guess. (I'm still hoping for Cruzado!) Feel free to poke holes!

If that's the case then we should be hearing about who the finalists are soon. If it plays out like it did at msu then the finalists will get to come to campus and meet with faculty and students and community leaders, and then the Regents will take about another week or so to make a decision before announcing the hire. So maybe we hear something as soon as next week?

Any president that is anti-athletics isn’t going to be a president for long. In this day and age that would be absolute career suicide if they did not recognize the importance of sports and how they equate to enrollment. I think the BOR will get it right and the University of Montana will be in good hands. A fresh start all the way around that is needed right now. Nothing but good things coming for the U of M!

Vision. Leadership. Fortitude. Vote Luke Wood for President 2026.

Do you think the new President should not be from Montana, someone that can bring a different perspective to the state and school. Some of the criticism is the school and AD Dept is a good ole boys network, do we need to President to overhaul the AD Dept and bring in a fresh set of eyes especially in the fundraising and new NCAA landscape.

Bodnar was not from Montana. Yes his wife is but he is not.

Royce Engstrom and Seth Bodnar were both not from Montana. My prediction is the new president won’t be either but it isn’t a problem with me if they are.

As long as they love football Idc. If they are anti-athletics they need to be run off immediately. I would like to see someone balanced. Def NOT an Engstrom. That dude was vile. Bodnar was okay, but I loved George Dennison. I would like to see someone who is forward thinking, maybe idk start a medical school at UM in partnership with St. Pats and Community, especially since Montana doesn't have a medical school? Or someone who isn't afraid to step into the Engineering world and compete against Tech and Bozoland. Okay, they couldn't compete with tech but I don't think it would take much to rival State and their Engineering Department.

Montana had the original Engineering school before WW1. They wanted to have a Law school. A deal was struck. Montana would have the Law School; State would get Engineering. This was probably a good deal for a number of years, but now Law School attendance is capped and Engendering is soaring. One of Montana's best-known graduates and WW1 hero was Paul Dornblaser. He was originally an Engineering student at Montana but changed his major to Law (Law was a B.A. degree at that time) when Engineering was moved to State.

Wasn't aware of the history. I do think that UM should open a Medical School. That wouldn't compete with State or Tech. Carroll is pre-med. It makes sense.

i just hope the person they hire has some background in academics, and how universities are run. i get the sentiment behind the bodnar hiring, but a few faculty i knew at the time said he had to spend a lot of time learning how things work. if i remember correctly, there were also some unhappy people when he had his wife do some work for the university. here's the a.i. answer to the question regarding his wife's involvement in university business:

Based on 2018 reports shortly after President Seth Bodnar was hired, his wife, Chelsea Elander, did not hold an official, paid job description with the University of Montana, but she was involved in university business
. Concerns were raised regarding her access to private student and family records for recruitment purposes.
  • Initial Involvement: Following Bodnar’s hiring in 2018, Chelsea Elander was active in campus initiatives.
  • Concerns Raised: The Missoulian reported in April 2018 that an outgoing vice president of enrollment expressed concerns about Elander requesting private records to share with The Messina Group for student recruitment.
  • Role Definition: While she was involved in activities, she was noted as not holding an official, paid, or formal job description at the university.

Bring Waded Cruzado out of retirement.
No. Please don’t. She was awesome at MSU. A completely different time in her life. You need someone with ambition and endless amounts of energy. Does she still have it? Maybe, but there is a reason she retired. Also, can we start thinking different as a country about experience and someone being older = better. Biden and Trump are shining examples of age being a disadvantage. Get someone middle aged in the role that has lots of miles left on the treads.

There are two medical school in Montana. Rocky Vista IN Billings and Touro College in Great Falls. Both offer Doctor of Osteopathy degrees.
Don't forget about WWAMI program in Bozeman being associated with University of Washington school of medicine.
RMC in Billings has a Physicians Assistant program that is doing well and that would be a good addition to The University of Montana.
One of Cruzado's goals was a Dental school at that campus. It would be an option for The University to explore.
I do think exploring an engineering school is a good idea.
FYI Rocky Vista is also about to complete the building for their school of Veterinary Medicine.
