Did Hauck have the Illinois job when he announced his retirement?

I also don't believe BH was going to take it or even offered the job until this last weekend. I had heard that there was a verbal agreement with another coach that fell through.
Same thing I heard and the coach whose verbal agreement fell through is an assistant with the Seahawks.

Chris Partridge was their top choice who backed out over the weekend which led Bielema to call Hauck after Hauck retired. These things move quickly.

Has anyone had a chance to see the number of coaches and support staff on the football staff at Illinois?

Alright, want to clarify after hearing a bit more. Sounds like BH was leaning towards retiring prior to any of the Illinois stuff. Guy withdrew from the Illini DC job and they touched base with BH to see if he might be interested. Sounds like Bielema and BH are fairly decent friends and have had discussions previously about the state of college football. BH didn't officially interview until after he resigned/retired.

Generally Illinois has higher property taxes, higher income taxes, a state sales tax of 6.25% . I haven’t calculated any numbers but after taxes and general cost of living had Bobby met all his incentives the income gap probably shrinks considerably. Bobby won 1 Big Sky Championship while 2.0 was in effect. His defenses were less than stellar. Other than 2023 we accepted mediocrity.

I bet you are fun at parties.

My tailgates are fantastic. Always something new with exceptional drinks-both mixed and growlers of beer. Our shish kabobs are second to none and homecoming jambalaya is fantastic. And my smoked prime rib making French dip sandwiches is a favorite. I just have no problem with Hauck leaving. Doesn’t bother me one bit.

You seem giddy even.

I'm hearing that Bobby has at least one very large expense this summer that may have played into his decision.

Of course he did.
No they had a verbal agreement with another coach until after the Super Bowl. Sunday evening/Monday morning would have been when Hauck was offered the DC opportunity at Illinois, which is many days after his retirement from Montana.

As if his f’in tailgate is any sort of big thing. You should see my f’in tailgate man. When I was back in Seattle, I had the goddamn Spoonman from the Soundgarden videos coming to my shit. I’m talking 6 grills burning at all times. Tiki torches, 3 whole pigs, shitloads of macaroni and cheeses, baked potatoes, collard greens, a horse, f’in Puerto Rican chicks showing their [assets] off everywhere. They were amazing. My tailgates smoke his stupid little dumb back lot principal-having tailgate shit.
