Hauck to Illinois

Why do you say that? Who are you thinking will go? Gives us some players and destinations.
The whole thing smells rotten, the AD knew, he didn’t get a text at last minute then summon senior leadship and all of a sudden promote BK. The players don’t need to goto ILL, they can goto any team they want.

Another egg on your face moment for the AD, plus by retiring he avoids the 250k buyout in his contract.

He (Bobby) doesn't avoid it. Illinois does,

Your analysis and suspicion smells rotten to me. The AD didn’t know.

Right... since we lost so much here...
The Big Sky isn't the Big 10. There isn't a single Big Ten team that runs that crappy defense. Nebraska tried it but ended up switching to a 4-2-5, but Bobby is going to change the landscape of FBS football with his fearsome 3-3-5 right? Please. There is a reason FCS and trash FBS teams run the 3-3-5, and it's not because it's a great defense. It's because they can't recruit the players necessary to run a 4 man front effectively, well, NDSU, MSU and SDSU can.

We shall see...

You are clueless.

It’s wild how many people are having a hard time believing that maybe Bobby really just did retire. And quickly after an old friend called him and asked him to run his defense for a shitload of money.

Did anyone really think Bobby was going to be done coaching? He just said he didn’t want to be head coach. I know if I got a job offer today for 800k I would take it.

Believe he used the term "retiring"...https://gogriz.com/news/2026/2/4/football-bobby-hauck-retires-as-montana-head-coach. But as you say he left the door open for future football, so that's that. My opinion would have been more accurate to "resign". Noting the matter with resigning, but it's sometimes associated with "quitting", either way he left. Darn good coach though, not moving on as a head coach, so maybe less of what he stated as reasons for leaving, good pay, a very good asset for any level of college, or professional football.
Tough read into what I was intending there, but I am questioning whether it was labeled he was retiring and then Bobby just rolled that way because he was staying in the flow and not trying to get anyone riled up.

I have no idea who called it that first, maybe it was him, but that would surprise me.

I also agreed at the time when he said Jimmy told him he looked at peace, it seemed like his face was just tensed up all year long and that day he looked 5 years younger than he has all year to me.

It's obvious why he "retired" By retiring his buyout in his contract is voided. He was in the last year of his current contract, with no President and a lamp duck AD whose contract ends this June he made the right move. A new president will most likely replace the AD and all the staff and hire their football coach. Plus, your making almost making triple your salary.

Ok so if that did happen (big if). He did the university a favor. Why are people bitching.

The Bobby Hauck sycophants here baffle me. He's not gonna sleep with you guys get over it.

I fully understand Bobby leaving for more money. Get the bag 100% of the time I can respect that. But that fact that anybody is defending how he went about this is troublesome. Makes me think we really do need to clean house of the entire old boys club that runs this Athletic department. If you really believe that the Illinois DC leaves for Notre Dame, and a day later on a random Monday Bobby Hauck just decides on a whim that he was done being a head coach isn't connected i don't know what to tell you. Our new head coach just happens to be living in Haucks basement and can slot right into the job how convenient. Bobby sits in a press conference and says he doesn't enjoy coaching anymore and he's gonna go fishing blah blah and then literally 5 days later he takes a huge job at Illinois.

He planned this shit all along. My issue isn't so much about Hauck leaving. It's that he's lying about it to try and save his legacy. Hauck is a great coach. But the truth is Hauck can't beat the Cats, can't win the Natty and can't get the Montana Grizzlies over the hump so he bailed on us in our time of greatest need while the Cats hoist the trophy. He thinks he can slink away and feed us bullshit so we don't notice it and judging by the people here on their knees defending him he's probably right.
