Ramos into the portal

MSU has not weaned down in the Portal. They never took 22 in a year from the portal. They are missing out on not upgrading using the portal. Just watch in the next few years. And they are not Indiana.and Cats lost by 46 to team that that lost by 34 to Indiana. I don’t play this score comparison game, but 80 is a lot of points.
No kidding that MSU isn't Indiana? Here I thought we were in a different subdivision all along.

Yes, MSU has weaned down in taking transfers. When Choate first started, the took quite a few and had been using the transfer game until they built up the roster. They take them as needed, because they don't need to reshape the roster. It's exactly what Cignetti is describing. UM is being forced to use the portal the way it is because they have not been able to build up the roster with HS recruits.

After the 2024 season MSU lost 21 seniors. UM was at 24. Both programs had several portal losses. MSU took in 6 transfers, 3 of whom played significant snaps. UM took in what, 30 transfers? Quite a few of those played significant snaps, and it's looking like UM will again be taking in a significant number of transfers and MSU will not. Why? Because MSU has built up the roster depth in a way that UM hasn't. It's not because MSU is missing out on upgrading talent, it's because MSU doesn't need to bring in transfers because the talent is already there. You can argue all you want, but I'd say being the 2025 National Champions is sufficient proof that it's working.

Carson Williams, CB Indiana
Jhase McMillan, CB UCLA
Seth Johnson, CB Iowa State
Cedric Jefferson, OT Utah
Hunter Provience, TE NC State
Chance Wilson, QB Southeast Missouri State
Jackson Harmon, DB Colorado School of Mines
Javonte King, WR (TBD)
Ife Ohalete, CB (TBD)
Jacob Trimble, WR (TBD)
Major Thornhill, DE (TBD)

If y'all think there won't be incoming transfers you got another thing coming. But yeah, go ahead and depend on "depth" and incoming freshmen.

Wow I do not know what to say to this!
I'm just trying to set realistic expectations. Seriously. I know people think I'm trying to stir crap up but I'm not.

Since his return, Bobby has gone 2-6 against the cats, has won only one big sky championship, and has made it to the national championship once with zero wins. We all know this and yet so many seem to think that future results will be different than past results even though nothing much is changing. Logic says that's just not true.

So others can keep wishing and hoping but I can't take the emotional rollercoaster so I am adjusting my expectations. If I expect us to lose to the cats and we win, bonus! If I expect us not to win the BSC and we do win it, bonus! If I expect us not to make it to a national championship or win one, and we do, bonus!

We’ll have transfers for sure. I don’t recall anyone saying we wouldn’t. Many of us knew in around October we’d have to completely replace the secondary. We’ll hit the portal there for sure.

I’m not sure how it goes at UM and not suggesting one way or another, but I think the best thing Vigen and staff does in regards to the portal is encouraging open communication with the players. They know if we bring in the guys we want badly, chances are good they’ll get bigger offers at bigger schools. Our staff have known about these players considering the portal for months. So while they continued coaching them up on the way to a national championship, they’ve had time to figure out these holes as well.

I don’t think college coaching has ever been more difficult. We all have views on the portal and NIL. But the best ones will figure out how to adapt. I know our collective for NIL is working overtime right now. Lamson and Dowler bros recommitted. Now today Fleischman did the same. Think we got 1-2 more guys that got pretty great offers we’re working to keep. Once the dust settles on all that they’ll be able to focus 100% on the portal and recruiting.

I disagree with hoops that the portal has past us by. Seems to me like our staff is making great use of the portal and well as our collective.

Did I say that they wouldn't take in transfers? I don't recall saying that. I said they wouldn't bring in a significant amount.

Everybody after Provience was depth that didn't play, even Provience split snaps with 2 other TE's and somewhat got supplanted by Rocky Lencioni. Jefferson will be replaced in house and I'd imagine they bring in a veteran CB or two. I'd expect 5-6 transfers again like the year prior, give or take a couple, but can't hardly see more than that.

Last year MSU lost 21 seniors, and 6 starters who transferred up. Brought in 5-6 transfers, and what happened with depending on depth and incoming freshman? Won the Natty. Now this year MSU is losing something like 10 seniors and a handful of starters. So why, exactly, would it be foolish to depend on depth and in house development?

Because MSU doesn't have as much in the gas tank this year, and that will be more evidence next year. For example, the Cat OL went backwards in 2025 from prior years. Times are a changing.

The Cats are so far behind the times that they, and let me check my notes here to make sure I'm correct, just won the national championship and beat the team that dominates the portal twice in once season. What a horrible place to be. If only MSU could win the off-season championships like you do here. ;)
As a child were you abused by anyone else besides the Montana Grizzlies?

Three mentions of winning a championship posted on one thread on your rivals board in less than 24 hrs. 😂😂😂

Need validation much?

It seems like you want to be taken as a serious poster here. If so, stop being so needy. All you’ve done is reinforce the little brother moniker.

Ironic you ask that you ask that question considering the state of the two programs right now and your persona on here..

You have a problem with "cat trolls" providing actual proof to a poster asking a legit question..

Validation?.. that's what most eGrizzers strive from most from their idiot comments..😂😂

Validation? Nope, don't need that.

Hoops is trying to claim that MSU is falling behind with the times. I retorted with the fact that MSU just won the Natty. Not validation, Ursa, rather proof that the original claim was faulty. However, I hope MSU falls behind in the same way next year too. Hoops can keep the offseason championships, I'll take the real ones.

Don't believe we have any yet. Sounds like this week the focus was recruiting and retaining some key players that were offered a lot of money. They have done excellent on that front.

We didn't have any portal additions this time of year last year either. I'm guessing we'll have some going forward.

Kinda why Gubner was never allowed a rest, that spot is kinda important
Bailey is 280. They both have a year to lift. Gubner was listed at 284 on the 2023 roster.

Bailey was listed as no. 2 on depth chart in 2025, at least through the regular season Cat game.

Why would Semaulo need 20/30 pounds? That was another poster you had responded to.

There are a bunch out there.

Your key focus was on recruiting and retaining you say? Last I checked the Bobcats had just as many portal entries as the Griz but a lot less portal additions.

Yes sir. At this point I have no reason to suspect Vigen and staff don’t know what they’re doing. After the extreme high of winning a national championship, I was very happy at how many kids we were able to retain. Now I trust this staff to find a few kids to fill spots of need and expect us to be in good shape next season.

You may be correct. Only time will tell. Nobody, at this point, can deny your hypothesis…
