The only coaches we have had since the 4-2-5 was being run by the majority of colleges teams are Stitt and Hauck. It is still fairly recent. It’d be cool if we ran a 4-2-5 or had run a 4-2-5. Which we don’t…and we haven’t…ever.
No shit. The only coaches we have had since the 4-2-5 was being run by the majority of colleges teams are Stitt and Hauck. It is still fairly recent.
I think it is misleading to say we have never run it when we have used it before, it just wasn’t the base defense and it has only been used by the majority of other teams for a little over a decade. Jason Semore who was our DC before Bobby came back used the 4-2-5 against 11 personnel quite a bit but he used all kinds of defensive alignments instead of sticking to just one.No shit.
Man UM's Dline is just TOO SMALL!I'm not sure if this information is somewhere else. If so, mods feel free to delete. I bolded the Griz who are R. Jr. or older. This is NOT a statement on if or who the Griz need to bring in. It's a snapshot of what the Griz have.
I wanted to provide it because when I went to the roster I didn't realize the numbers and experience the Griz have for both OL and DL. It helps me to know what the Griz have. I'm hoping it can be of benefit to others during this open transfer portal period and into the spring.

Under Semore it was a 4-3 personnel base but 4-2-5 was probably the alignment most used on the field. That is more important because it is what is used in games rather than the personnel base that the depth chart is based on. The key difference with nickel and dime packages out of the 4-3 instead of the 3-3-5 is the 4-3 has 2 true defensive tackles and defensive ends. The hybrid linebacker used in shifted 3-3-5 isn’t the same as a defensive end when it comes to eating up blocks and stopping down hill runs. Not sure how it’s misleading.
Our base defense with semore was a 4-3, did we have a nickel package out of that? Absolutely. Did we have a dime package out of that? Absolutely. Out base defense under semore was still a 4-3.
When gregorak was here we ran a 4-3. He also had a nickel and a dime package. Our base defense was still a 4-3.
In the future I’ll be sure to specify that we have never ever run a 4-2-5 as a BASE defense.
King (DE), Hanks (DL), Wiegel (OL), Drummond (OL), and then the freshman but I doubt any of them will contribue a whole lot their first years on campus.Who?
I really like Cooper Cyphers film I doubt he plays but I think he’s the most readyKing (DE), Hanks (DL), Wiegel (OL), Drummond (OL), and then the freshman but I doubt any of them will contribue a whole lot their first years on campus.
Could be a candidate for the 4 game redshirtI really like Cooper Cyphers film I doubt he plays but I think he’s the most ready
Semore received no priority for his D from his HC and was in over his head as a DC.Under Semore it was a 4-3 personnel base but 4-2-5 was probably the alignment most used on the field. 5280 doesn't have a clue about football or Griz football. Glad you keep pointing it out. I liked Semore as a person. He married a Missoula woman, or woman whose mom lives in Missoula. Semore, Stitt and others used to come to my big annual parties at Plonk. As I have said, I knew Stitt fairly well and communicated with him, though a mutual friend, before he even came to Missoula.Semore received no priority for his D from his HC and was in over his head as a DC.
