No need for anyone to rip, you make a valid point. I too am an MSU alumnus & have been on board since 1981. IYou and I and others are from a different era/culture. I remember my grandfather just loathing rock and roll lyrics from the late 60's & 70's and I'd just laugh at him. Today's lyrics would kill him. Some kill me. Numbers don't make it right - but it is accepted in today's culture. I too have friends who think it's a bit over the top, but I've yet to hear a younger person agree. There's a story about this on Bobcat Nation complete with interviews on origin and how it affects players, fans, etal. It would be interesting to see the ages of egriz posters who don't like it. I doubt this genie will get put back into the bottle, so for me I just roll with it. I promise I've never chanted it at a game (I mostly watch on tv) or anywhere else. But if Griz fans had a similar victory song it wouldn't get my hackles up.
I’m 31 for a data point of someone who doesn’t mind it. Most fans who seem really bothered by it are Boomers.

I don't get why they don't use other team names in the Mony Mony chant. Most team names are two syllables. Redbirds replaces Grizzlies quite nicely, and would be appropriate. Could be a nice little tradition at home games. Rabbits, Bison, Weber, Hornets, Mustangs, Dixie, Yalies, Portland, Aggies, Eagles, etc. I think even the most smooth brained cats fans could find a way to make it work for every team them play. Am I overthinking this?

Yep. I'm a boomer, I get it. Thanks.

Most Griz fans are concerned about multiple things. It’s not one thing over another. One can be concerned about 10 things at a time. Commenting about Cat glitches and goof ups including behavior is mostly making fun of them not worrying about them.

Why do you post on egriz? Maybe you should worry about that.

Why are there so many stupid posts on egriz? From the likes of you?
Haha you're too funny 🤣

There’s just no way you’ve been on this board since ‘81 man.

Weird stats. Even in first downs. ISU has 18-12 on TOP. Cats have run for only 48yards, or 3.7. The big difference in stats is passing. 228 to 109 for Cats. Lamson 12-13. Rittenhouse 15-21. And, again, Cats making more plays.

Mony, Mony is only played after Cat griz games. ESG GCG has become part of the MSU fight so it's played every time the Cats score...which is obviously many times each game.
We have spent 5 days in Nashville. In nearly every bar that had a band, cat fans requested Mony Mony and screamed the ESG GCG chant. They did it all through the game. As MSU alums, we went to Nashville and the game wearing our Cat gear. The fan behavior was an embarrasment to the team, fans, and the state of Montana. It will be a long time before I wear any Bobcat gear again.

United played Mony Mony on the charter from Bozeman.

I attended the 2023 championship game in person as a Griz fan. Not once were the cats even on my mind. I couldn't have cared less what cat fans or their team were doing or thinking or whatever that weekend - I was only thinking about my team and my family and the fun we were having together. We ultimately lost which was sad but even then, my mind wasn't on the cats. Not once did I hear any chants or cheers regarding the cats that whole weekend, now maybe they happened and I wasn't there, but the scope and scale of anything that happens on the griz side is. NOWHERE NEAR the ESG GCG crap. Like I posted elsewhere, how the cat fans act causes secondhand embarrassment for Griz fans. It must really suck to be a decent cat fan when the majority of your fan base acts like that.

I have visited with a few cat fans and alumni that are secretly disgusted and embarrassed by esg gcg.
As a lifetime Montanan, it embarrasses me every time I hear especially on national television.
The Mony Mony is newer. When I went to MSU in the early 80's it was "FTG" and "eat shit grizzlies Go Cats Go!" Harmless fun, really. The Mony Mony portion likely came about sometime near the end of the streak, likely due to the immense frustration CAT fans felt while losing 16 games in a row. Not to mention the endless ribbing and putdowns from Griz fans. Then Bobby Hauck joined in and really fanned the fire.
Try to be honest with yourself, if you lost 16 straight games to the CATS, you would hate us even more. We all just need to toughen up a bit and remember it's nothing new to this historic rivalry dating back to 1897.
