Kyon Loud Entering the Portal

This is tough. Does anyone know how much he was getting here?

Something has to change. This isn’t even free agency. It’s a meat market. There needs to be some sort of rule that forces a binding contract when players are taking money or you don’t get unlimited transfers.

Hypothetically, can a player take money from 2 different schools while being recruited before signing?

maybe it's because the Portal guys have earned that option.
Are you telling me montana hasn't had any homegrown talent that could of tested their mettle at the next level? Most of the players from montana have either ties to the program or some personal investment which probably decreases the chances of them transferring.

I don't think he was getting very much.

We surely offered him a lot to stay, but he's likely looking at offers that we can't match from other big programs.

Agreed on the contracts part. I also think the school that poaches should have to compensate the school they poached from, but that gets pretty complicated when it's ultimately the player's decision on where he goes.

They need to just make it where players can't transfer up unless they want to sit out a year like they used to. They never will because I think they'll get sued, but that's the easiest and possibly best solution imo.

Rape, you say? Tell me more…

No Griz football player accused during these times, by anyone including the school, even got kicked out of school if they got a lawyer, except Donaldson. Not one other one. It was a bunch of BS, and Krakauer's book was full of the mistakes. Too bad he didn't get sued. People looked at suing him.

The portal as it exists today is without a doubt the worst thing to happen to college football. They have to fix this issue.

For FCS teams the damage is 10 fold compared to FBS
I absolutely love the portal and the flexibility and financial gain the players are getting. But there are lessons for everyone here.
Coaches are learning that they have to treat the players with humility and respect. They have to successfully navigate and weigh the difference between recruiting development players or veteran players ready to play.
Players are learning that the grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence and you'll get out what you put into it.
Fans are realizing that building a roster doesn't have to take years but also your stacked roster can go to hell overnight.

I've talked about this before on here, but I just don't love that, because it gets at the heart of the "school vs. semi-professional sports league" part of this.

No normal student transferring colleges would be barred for a year from participating in school-affiliated activities/clubs/etc., so I don't see why that should pertain to student athletes.

I get it, it "fixes" a problem that exists, but the larger problem is one that still hasn't been addressed. I think the portal has become a terrible thing, but I also think the way it operates right now is the most fair and equitable solution for the actual student athletes that has ever existed.

You're probably right. And requiring them to pay the school to leave really makes them more of an employee than student-athlete. There really isn't an obvious fix out there. Selfishly, I want to make it so that we see players stay at the FCS levels longer. Realistically, if it were my child, there's a certain money point where they nearly have to leave if it's a legitimate offer. So I can't blame the athletes themselves for doing it, and quite frankly, with how much money universities make off of good football teams, they likely aren't getting paid enough.

Welp this f*cking sucks
Yup, Loud probably could have got a much better deal if he stayed and was healthy all next year. If I was a kid, I definitely wouldn't be going to the portal right now with how many people have entered it, its gonna be hard to get noticed.

This just reinforces my idea that we need to change our Defensive scheme up, if it's so difficult and "exotic" to learn expecting a bunch of new portal guys to learn it and execute in a timely manner every year is a recipe for disaster. We need to adapt to the new normal, something that is easy to learn and effective to adapt to the turnover we're going to have to deal with every year.

Wow, I thought you would take a longer break. Missing you on bobcat nation lol. Your constant talking over there is severely missed. But I would be MIA too after that game.
Cool story. And I have been on there and read Hook’s content - he pokes the bear to have a little fun, but has been a solid contributor. Nothing at all like the cat trolls on this board.

But how would you know that if you weren't on here all season? Again that's a pretty sad existence living on your rivals forum. And yall? Are you a transplant too I can't say I hear yall spouted in Montana too often.
I hate transplants more than I hate the griz. And that’s saying something. I have been here all season but yall are so soft I keep getting banned. Not hard to create new accounts lol. Also, if everyone didn’t care so much about what I have to say, then I wouldn’t be on here. What’s the point of posting if I get no feedback? You just feed into me. It’s not my fault.
