Shafer hit vs Harper hit

Going low when a receiver is turned around catching the ball, is considered a hit on a defenseless player and is against the rules. It is not that the hit was low that makes it against the rules. It is that it was low when Shafer was defenseless.
Show us a replay. He made the catch and took a step facing forward, and got hit on the shin.

I have a still shot of the hit Shafer is in the process of turning around and the Cat player hits him in the side of the knee as he is turning. I am not sure how to post a photo on here.

Get out of here. You are naive. People either openly or in secret wish for injuries of opponents frequently. Pro sports more openly. I learned during the days of my kids playing high school sports that parents on our team wished for inquires of kids playing in front of their kids. I assume that Karma will get some of these guys. The guy who hit 84 intentionally hit 84 in the knee, and caused huge injury. You can can complain and whine all you want, but wishing for injuries is frequent. I really don't like that hit in particular. In the NFL, that kid would be targeted in future games. Not saying he should be, just saying how some do it in the NFL.
Nope, not naive at all. I’ve always known there are miserable POS people like you that actually wish injury on student athletes. I’ll just never be one of those people. Glad we can all see your true colors though…as if it wasn’t already obvious.

The sad part is that there hasn’t been any of your fellow griz that have called you out on these comments so I take it you all, along with the site mods, agree.

Also, are you ever going to respond to my question earlier in this thread? In your 1920s playing days, how many times did you have to tackle a 6-5 270 pound TE in the open field? You are the most ignorant poster here. You know nothing about football, you’re poor and you don’t know any players or coaches.

You don't tackle a running receiver, especially a tall one, just catching the ball, by tackling him in the knee. You go above the knee a bit, or go lower. You also don't use a hip drop, like the tackler did on Davis. Another dirty play, and that one is unnecessary roughness.
I don’t disagree with that. I think intent is important and I wouldn’t think either player intentionally tried to make a dirty hit. The cat defender almost seemed scared in the still picture, because that is not an engaged hip. Probably more to do with aiming point. Had he launched and released his hip he probably does end up around the thigh board.

The NCAA hasn't added the hip drop tackle as a penalty. The NFL added in 2024 and I just googled that it has been called only 3 times in 2025. It really is a hard call for officials. I always cringe in college and NFL when those tall TE's and RB's like Gronk and Derrick Henry get hit low like that. But the hard thing is how you would define the penalty? The NFL and NCAA have both added poorly written rule changes over the years that leave the officials as the ones that have to try and enforce it. I haven't watched replay of game so I can't comment too much of these specific plays.

No, he didn't. He hit him right on the knee. You could see it in real time, as well as replays Stop making excucses. Hit on Davis could have been called a penalty. It was an unnecessary roughness hip drop. Clear as can be. Hot on Taco. Bad call. Late hit on Lamson should not have been a penalty. Not even close. Cats have dirty players. Fact. You are completely biased, and out to lunch. Go home.

I can't post it either but I just watched it again, it was a clear catch and Shafer was facing the endzone when he got hit after taking one step. Pretty bang/bang to me. Just like the head placement on the targeting wasn't intentional. Neither was this.

After watching again it does look like just above the knee, but the point is it was bang/bang just like the targeting. Nothing intentional about it. More like self-preservation to me. ;)

Why are there so many Cat fans here? You are a week away from playing in the championship and you are spending your time on a Griz football message board, what is wrong with you? If there wasn’t already proof that the Griz are living rent free in their head, look at all the Cats who would rather be on a Griz football page when the Cats are coming up on playing for the championship. If right now you would still rather read about the Griz than your own team that is never going to change.
The fact that so many of them are here (some with nearly as many posts here as on their own forum) leads me to believe they’re trolls or insufferable “Charmin-soft” fans who after witnessing the streak, are now seeking validation from Griz faithful. You’d think they’d be in Nashville partaking in some sightseeing before their big game…..but maybe they can’t afford the $2000 flights out of Bozangeles.

Charter leaves on Friday.

If he was already turned around and had taken a step forward, how come the hit was to the side of the knee? That is because Shafer was still turning around. It would have been on the front of the knee if Shafer was facing forwards.

Theres actually a pretty huge difference on that.
The only difference is one guy who isn’t being engaged up high. Otherwise the tackling principle below the waist is the same. Shafer is still getting essentially “chopped” or hit at or below the waist

Right....and if a DL isn't being engaged above the waist, then it is legal to cut block. So yeah....that's a pretty big difference.

Lots of people get tackled or cut below the waist. It's a pretty big part of the game.

Because Petre wasn't facing him head on?

It’s hard to face someone head on when they are turning around but Petre would have been facing him head on if Shafer was turned around. Petre launched at him from directly 2 yards ahead of Shafer towards the endzone. Both players are on the middle hash.

A 75 year old man openly rooting for a student athlete on another team to get injured.. wow.. just fucking wow.. says all you need to know..
