Might be the best statement in Schmidt's pod: Rob Ash has more wins than any MSU coach, three Big Sky Conference championships, but was fired because he was 2-7 against the Griz.
I can’t believe I’m agreeing with Hike Glacier, but he is right on this…I don’t think his (Ash) winning percentage was much different than our current version of Hauck 2.0…was it?Might be the best statement in Schmidt's pod: Rob Ash has more wins than any MSU coach, three Big Sky Conference championships, but was fired because he was 2-7 against the Griz.
So 13 wins is a "fair share of games?" How many times did Ash do that?I’m sure if ASH was still coach he’d win his fair share of games. Just like Bobby and Staff do now….
That was certainly one factor but not the sole reason he was fired. MSU's high water mark for defense under Ash was in 2012. I think that was the year Schreibeis won the Buck. The defense got a little shittier every year, and by 2015 we were praying the other team would foul up third down and not elect to go for it on fourth down.Might be the best statement in Schmidt's pod: Rob Ash has more wins than any MSU coach, three Big Sky Conference championships, but was fired because he was 2-7 against the Griz.
What I meant was the two coaches overall winning percentages, but you’re right Ash never made it past the quarterfinals..point taken. So 13 wins is a "fair share of games?" How many times did Ash do that?

But Ash couldn’t beat the Griz , so he then became TOAST to the Bobcat faithful, and I’m sure if ASH was still coach he’d win his fair share of games. Just like Bobby and Staff do now….
G0 GRIZ!!
The best offensive lineman the Griz had over my 4 years at UM was from Chandler Arizona.Thought they probably had similar overall winning percentages while at state, and MONTANA!….but of course I was wrong
First order of business is should be Devoloping the best Montana kids first and foremost..Then getting some of those John Deere-type Mid-West Built Snowplows up front capable of handling the cold FCS Climate..come November and December
Wisconsin has ONE D1 school
Minnesota has ONE D1 school
Nebraska has ONE D1 school
This is where NDSU goes for the extra beef ..
..No reason why the Griz couldn’t have success there as well..+ might stop the top gifted recruits from hitting the portal…because their girlfriend lives back home where he grew up

With how bad we've been on 3rd/4th and Long over the last few years I've definitely been at this point for awhile now, if giving up an 87 yard TD on 3rd and 20 won't wake them up then nothing will. After Ash was let go and the discussion became who we wanted for a head coach, I would have been happy with any DC who could get a stop on 4th and 15, and at the time I was being mostly sincere and only partially sarcastic. That's how bad the defense was.
Minnesota now has 2 D1 schools. Don’t forget about St. Thomas. They have been pretty impressive during their transition up from D2. Don’t be surprised if St. Thomas becomes a regular in the FCS playoffs.Thought they probably had similar overall winning percentages while at state, and MONTANA!….but of course I was wrong

Yes, and great GRIZ DT's Gubs originally from Cali, Brian Toone from Butte, and GRIZ great OL Scrafford from Billings, Szalay and McFarland from Kalispell, Horn and Proctor from WA, and Gragg from Oregon. The best offensive lineman the Griz had over my 4 years at UM was from Chandler Arizona.
Waded was golden…Great Hire! The Rob Ash era ultimately fell apart because the defense couldn’t keep up. The offense was plenty good and there were talented individual defenders, but the defensive staff (DC Jamie Marahall) never really evolved schematically. We lived in Cover 4, didn’t adjust to modern offenses, and got burned way too often in big games.
Ash did win a lot of games and 3 BSC titles, but you could see, in real time, the game passing him by. And toward the end he tried to mask the schematic deficiencies with bringing in more and more transfers. Looking back MSU probably waited a year or two too long to let him go.
Our AD at the time, Peter Fields, was also a terrible leader who was holding the university/department back.
Thank God for Waded Cruzado.

We need to be able to get one or two yards running the ball no matter what down it is…With how bad we've been on 3rd/4th and Long over the last few years I've definitely been at this point for awhile now, if giving up an 87 yard TD on 3rd and 20 won't wake them up then nothing will.
It would be hard to argue that one of the best linemen in Griz history is from Whitefish. The best offensive lineman the Griz had over my 4 years at UM was from Chandler Arizona.
