What We Can Do As Griz Fans

I seldom agree with "take a Hike" but while in this case he could be a little more tactful he isn't totally wrong. Money is only a small part of the problem and bake sales car washes and signs with QR codes aren't going to fix it. I know most of you are really trying to problem solve until you reach the point of coaching change but then you just kind slink away with an awe fuck. And that is short term reasonable because Hauck isn't going any where this year even thouogh he is 80 % of the problem. But looking past next year, a contract year, what can/will you do then? The Griz are probably a 9-3 team, maybe a 5 - 8 seed, and very possibly a couple more playoff wins. But if a 13-2 coach cant be let go then who will support letting him go at 11-4? I mean he has been here 7 for seven years and while succesful to a point hasn't really delivered as promised. So if we really want to change things and wan't to raise money, maybe it should be for a "help Bobby retire fund". Some of you are talking about raising a million for NIL. What about that money going to Bobby to "encourage" him to retire and not seek a new contract. And then some well placed individual or individuals need to start seeding the idea to him about retirement. We all know he is obsessed with a Natty but touting the advantages of fishing more and stressing less might be effective if there was added compensation. Otherwise he will be here for another three years and this shit will just continue. Maybe Hoops could actually do some good and talk up the advantages of retirement to him since he seems to enjoy it.
I get that you think a coaching change is necessary. You might be correct. However that is typically outside the realm of control for the average fan to influence. What isn’t outside of our control is what we can do to engage students and athletes. We need to show the value and support that the university and its greater community can give. Or would you rather concede defeat? Instead of bitching we can organize. Maybe I’m in the wrong trying to get a bunch of you folks to actually do something besides complain.

PDX - I have no interest in engaging in a back and forth negitive conversation. Please review my original post. There is no bitching other than my opinion that the bulk of the current situation rests on Haucks shoulders. And I offered a solution which may be better than others have suggested. There is really nothing that can be done in the near term. I suggested an approach that would involve influential persons working to suggest to Hauck that retirement after the 26 season would both benefit the University, the football program, his mental health, and his legacy. There was one reply to this thread that said they knew the Washington bros and would bring the issue up. Those type of responses might start moving things forward. However, unless there is some back room pressure on Hauck, I simply don't believe that you and others blindly supporting Hauck for what he did many years ago, will change anything. There comes a time when it becomes apparent that the status que isn't working but apparently there is a significnt portion of egriz that isn't willing to accept the change that is needed. All I can say is see you next year to see what direction the needle moves.

Let me know when you know of any big supporter/booster who would ask Bobby to step aside after a year. In point of fact, you would need a bunch of them. To my knowledge, the biggest supporters/boosters like Bobby and support him. You are out of step. My god, we just went 13-2. Do you know nothing about football, coaching and success? Do you not even realize how silly your comment/suggestion is. Perhaps things will change or evolve.

As I said see you next year when nothing has changed.

Sorry my frustration came out. I’m just trying to move the needle on things I feel like I can help with. I have no influence nor do I know anyone who does. Yes, my solution is not a NOW solution, but we want sustainable success, right? Improvements can take many forms, influence being one, student and programmatic support is another. Given the disparity of momentum between the two colleges ANYTHING we can do to turn the tide helps.

Allow me to agree with Hoops. We just witnessed our team win 11 games in a row before a freakish loss to the cats. That was a game that we easily could have won.
But we didn’t. So we are seeded third and get the toughest draw of any 3 seed ever. No problem. We disposed of South Dakota State, with their starting QB returned to the lineup. Then we defeated South Dakota easily. Scored more than 50 points in both games. South Dakota was deep into the 2nd quarter before they got a first down so the defense wasn’t exactly a no show in the game. Then the cats again. Fall behind 20-3. Would have been easy for the Griz to quit at that point but NO. They come back to take the lead. Admittedly after that the ceiling fell in. So we lose twice to (ick) the probable national champion. In my mind that makes us the second best team in FCS. If my wishes come true and Southern Illinois wins in Nashville then we are the 3rd best team in FCS. For some of you coming up short of Nashville seems to mean the sky is falling. Fire the coach. Fire the AD. As Aaron Rodgers once famously said: RELAX. We have a good coach. He will rebuild the team through the transfer portal and the young guys already on the team will get bigger and stronger. I don’t think KAY or Gilman are leaving. The sky is not falling. We just have figure out a way to beat the cats and maybe we can win it all next year. However if we come up short again I, for one, will still be able to appreciate how lucky we are to be in the mix almost every year. Go Griz.

It’s not that we lost in the semis. I think you are seeing a lot of wins (which are fantastic!) but are missing the important ones. The gulf between the Griz and neighbors is wide in recruiting Montana kids (how many kicked ass Saturday for the cats? How many were from MISSOULA?). The gulf between line play on both o and d it also wide. The cats could run at will. Schmidt put out an interesting stat: in the 9 losses in Hauck 2.0 to xDSU and the cats, opponents have rushed for 250+ yards per game. Thats bad. Part of it is schematic and part of it is jimmies and joes. People point to 2023 as a time when it worked but that has a generational talent in Gub. Based on the d every other year, it was an anomaly.

The neighbors are killing it in almost everything. If you are fine with not winning the Big Sky and getting blown out by the cats every year, that’s on you. Most aren’t ok with it. We want the university to be the best it can be. Right now it’s not. Right now it’s playing second fiddle to THEM. That’s unacceptable.

UM had a terrific season. No matter what you say, the season was terrific and the team is the 2d or 3d best team in the nation. The Cats are a run team. Of course they are going to get a good amount of yards rushing. Does that surprise you? The Cats averaged 262 yards per game this season. The Cats rushed for 241 and 240 against the Griz this year. Big deal. Less than their season average. Great stat Andrew. Just another dumb point by Schmidt. He's got nothing and he's struggling to find something that might stick.

Yes Hoops! Yes! It was so terrific getting beat by the Cats twice! They didn’t accomplish one goal on their pyramid but it was a terrific season. Hoops you remind me of an early 90’s die hard Bobcat fan.

Nobody said it was nice getting beat by Cats twice, but going 13-2 and being the 2d or 3d best team in the nation is a very high accomplishment. Obviously, you never played the game and don't understand the game.

13-2. Think about firing a coach with that record in any other place outside of Montana. You would think those people are lunatics. And you would be right. The Cats have gotten very good. So you are going to bring in somebody new to catch up to them right away? So if you fire Bobby how long you going to give new coach? It might take years to get as close again as Griz are now. You going to have that kind of patience? That guy won't last. Then you have a situation like Nebraska after they fired Solich. Best thing long term would to have Bobby keep the job and bring in someone young to to be on staff that would bring energy and be the heir apparent. Kyle Samson would be one guy I think would be great. Put him in as offensive coordinator. And let him get recruiting the state.

Changes MUST happen. Listen to those who are calling for a different way and propose solutions.

Robby Hauck is available to bring in as heir apparent to Bobby Hauck.
