Rethinking my fandom

As I consider how upset I was at the results of today's game, I'm rethinking how passionate I want to be about this team going forward. I'll always be a Griz fan and I'll always love this team but I think I have to find a way to be a more casual fan. I can still come to a game or two in the fall (and scream my head off) and watch all the games on TV, but I have to be able to separate myself somehow so that I'm not so horribly disappointed when we lose to the cats every year. (Which seems inevitable as long as Bobby remains the coach which also seems inevitable.) Maybe someone around here can give me some solid advice on how to do this.

I don't think you should be less passionate, but as others have said here keeping things in perspective afterwards (no matter the result) is more important. When you guys eventually get over the hump and win it all (and you will) that day will be so much sweeter if you stay just as passionate through all the highs and lows along the way. Stay involved, keep talking about the team and what you'd like to see stay the same & what you'd like to see change/improve, and enjoy the ride along the way.

Whatever you fans do, do not stop tailgating and showing up to support the team. Each and every one of us help contribute to the best game day experience in the West and that’s something that nobody can take away from us except ourselves. It was a tough loss today but we’ll remember it for next year and use it as motivation

Couldn't agree with this more. My experience out in Missoula a couple weeks ago was by far the best I've ever had with any opposing teams fan base. A fun and robust tailgate helps build even more financial support for the program. In Brookings we've come pretty damn close to matching what I saw in Missoula during the regular season but it drops off quickly during the playoffs, our next step is keeping that going strong for every game.

You reached the Semifinals of the FCS playoffs. There are 100+ fan bases that would have killed for that.

Either understand that, or don’t get angry when outsiders call your fanbase XXX

I will have to put my 2 cents worth in, then let it rest and recuperate till next year. I read of all the "HATE" of the Bobcats, and it makes me sad. I have been a LOYAL Griz fan since about 1955. I ask that you remember that MONTANA State is in front of Bobcats. I have always prided myself in being a "MONTANAN" first.and foremost, I can honestly say that I never have, and hope I never will, "HATE" another team with Montana in their name, just because they are not the Grizzlies. I have always bled maroon and silver, and will continue to. Many times over the last 70 years or so, there have been many good years, but there have also been a lot of bad years. To be a good fan in my book, you roll with the punches, take the good with the bad, which there will ALWAYS be, and stay loyal to and support, root, and pray for "YOUR" team. In my case, win lose or draw, that is the University of Montana Grizzlies. But yes, I do indeed wish the MONTANA STATE BOBCATS well in their quest to bring a national title back to the state of MONTANA! Go cats, and as I have said for many many years, and still mean it, GO GRIZ !!!!!

Yep. And given this i dont get the whole sky is falling vibe over here. Two close losses to the team going to the natty. Only losses in the year. Yeah its your rival. You won the 2nd quarter today. I would call the 3rd a draw.
In what world was yesterday “close”? That is the whole problem. It wasn’t. The brawl really wasn’t. It was obvious which team was better from start to finish. If it was close, then this would be a different conversation. But it wasn’t.

When you have folks on their side denigrating the value of UM degrees, actively rooting for the total demise of UM as academic institution, former president Crudzado stating in department meetings that she wanted to crush UM at everything and majority of the MUS BOR having msu ties, the line has been clearly drawn. I’ll never root for that school for any reason, as they’ve clearly shown they’re not about Montana as a whole….only State.

I was gonna say, they like to call us arrogant, but MSU fan arrogance is about to reach a whole new stratosphere, especially if a new streak is forming. Telling us to eat shit, or that we went to JUCO is tame compared to what's coming.

This is spot on. Yesterday looked like a high school team playing against a middle school team.

Having conversations with players and parents in Missoula after the South Dakota State game, the MSU fan base treated them like the word they like to Chant about us. SDSU players and parents stated they were not at all treated well. They stated they were treated with much more CLASS in Missoula. When I was a young coach, a successful and wise coach told me winning is not everything making the effort to win is, fairly and with class. This stuck with me and has guided how I live my life. I do not know, nor have I met the MSU coach, but the fan base., a few assistants, and some of the players do not demonstrate class. (This is not saying that GRIZ fans and players and coaches always demonstrate class but not to the extent that I have personally experienced from MSU. I am a GRIZ but have to admit I did do a stint as a MSU coach, not football). For the Montana players GO WIN THE CHAMPIONSIP but with more class than has been shown in recent years. 50 years of coaching around the country and multiple championships for this boy. The former athletes that still stay in contact i treasure. Stay strong

So as to my earlier statement that Cats are Big Brother. Right now they have the better program. No denying it. With that said a bet was a bet and I think this is close enough to the 24 hours. FTC all day and all year. And I hate you Jon for making me post that.

Imagine being an Arizona Cardinals and Montana Griz Fan. The Cardinals just lost their 7th straight game. They are on track to be one of the only teams to fail to get to 4 wins after starting 2-0. I believe the first team to do so during a 17 game season.

Imagine being a 49ers and Griz fan. Five million championship and semis appearances in the last 20 years and nothing to show for it. At least Cards fan expect nothing

The Cardinals made the Super Bowl with Kurt Warner and the NFC Championship with Carson Palmer.

Looks like Ursus has complained enough that he finally may have gotten something right. You know what they say about a dog's ass and the sun.
20 years of data and next year is going to be the same thing Beat the shit out of really bad BSC teams and get fucking hammered in the playoffs. Huack has had two decades to get it done and he can't. He's the FCS Kirk Ferentz. It's never going to happen no matter how positive or negative the fans are.
