I just listened to a bit of this. I can see that I've gotten into Schmidt's head. A few people have fed me with more stuff.
Schmidt is a liar. He wants to say I'm 80 and have dementia. He's called me 80 multiple times I'm told, and I heard some in the podcast. Think he's making a bit too much of the below joke. Until Schmidt came after me, I had never said a negative thing about Schmidt in my entire life, have always liked him (due to his playing in the same Bozeman high backfield with my nephew), having both been high-flying Hawks and have even supported him at times. He then comes on some podcast and comes at me out of the blue (I am told and appeared on egriz), saying I was shit about him. Not true. A complete lie.
"Schmidt knows that I'd kick his ass if he called me out on air. As I have said before, my nephew and Schmidt were the starting running backs for the High-Flying Hawks and were classmates. Tanyon Bissel who played at Boise State was in that backfield too, as the QB. My nephew was a starting corner for Dartmouth." I thought at that time of my post that I had enough history and relationship with him that he wouldn't be calling me out on the podcast and so I made my joke comment. Well, I was wrong. That's okay. Now I can feel free to go after him.
Then, he started taking to me in the thread on egriz. Said that my thread on giving some love to the OL is what set him off and caused him to start calling me out on the podcast. Recall that until the recent thread, I had not said a negative word or any word on Schmidt, other than occasional support in the past. And some of what he apparently said about me was not true. Again, he's a liar.
I can see that the criticism that he and Colter have gotten have already altered and softened what they are saying about the Griz, OL, coaches, etc. Now they see a path to win a national championship and have softened up on the OL, etc. So, mission accomplished.
After the gloves came off, I noted he never played much and was mostly a scrub. Did he ever start more than one or so games. That was in response to what he had been saying about me, including age and dementia. And after someone said he'd played in a national champ game, I asked for Schmidt's stats in the game. There weren't any, to my knowledge. Clearly, I got his goat. Mission accomplished. I wonder if Schmidt was the program he couldn't get a job in Missoula after graduation. I suppose that never occurred to him. I would never have hire a guy like what he's become.
My wife asked me to turn up the piece of the podcast I was listening to a bit ago, and asked what was up. Her comment was that Schmidt is not only an asshole, but he's got a chip on his shoulder. She also says he's a got a big ego. He says he is always right and he always knows what he is talking about. My Bozeman family, or the few I mentioned this too (my brother lives in the same Over 55 as I do in AZ and I text with my nephew), are feeling a bit different about Schmidt too and shaking their heads.
Schmidt is bad for the Griz program, in my view. He's causing more harm to the program than good. People like Taber, some of you and I, are helping the program with our support and positive view.
My view on Colter is changing too. Still like him and like what he does, but I'm not no longer going to speak up for him when I see or hear people going after him unfairly. Clear, sunny and 77 here in AZ. Time to get to the pool.
I texted a bit with Bobby yesterday. He's fired up. Go Griz!
