Defensive Delay Of Game

Since nobody in this thread seems to know what caused the penalty to be called, I find it funny that some are saying it was definitely a rule violation and some are saying it’s specially stated in the rule. Ya, right.

Team Pre-Snap Movement
Any defensive team player within one yard of the line of scrimmage (stationary or not) may not make quick and abrupt or exaggerated actions that simulate action at the snap and are not part of normal defensive player movement in an obvious attempt to make the offense foul. This will continue as a point of emphasis in the game. The offense will be held to the same standard as any pre-snap movement that simulates action at the snap is a foul on the offense for a false start.

Disconcerting Signals
No player shall use words or signals that disconcert opponents when they are preparing to put the ball in play. No player may call defensive signals that simulate the sound or cadence of, or otherwise interfere with, offensive starting signals. New for 2025, the terms "move" and "stem" are reserved for defensive cadence and may not be used by the offense. The offense may use a "clap" as a starting signal and this signal may not be used by the defense.

I thought the new rule was that you can’t do drastic shifts to simulate movement that can cause the offensive players to jump. That’s been a rule for like 2 years now.

It’s something the Griz used to do very frequently. I assume when they’re on the half yard line tho it’s worth a shot because worst case you lose an inch or two.

Show us the replay. How is bear-crawling in place a forward movement? Is bear-crawling in place even not permitted? How does bear-crawling place “simulate” action at the snap. Does any DL bear crawl in place as the snap occurs?

Why hasn’t evenone person in this thread said what you said? No one. What number was the DE?

No one is whine about the play. Some of us are discussing the play. This is a football message board.

I have not - I just have very high expectations for this team and enough gumption to actually voice my own opinion. You have become a bully who tries to get everyone to agree with him, and you think that everyone does because no one will speak up against you except a select few. The reality is there is a silent majority who doesn't agree with you. I used to respect you but the way that you continually call people stupid for simply disagreeing has greatly diminished my opinion of you. You need a come to Jesus moment about your behavior here. But I doubt that it will happen because your ego is simply too big.

How is DL expected to shift as a group without a signal? Isn’t DL shifting a long time part of football and goofing up the blockers and blocking scheme. Is DL expected to just get set and let the OL make its calls and line up who they will block?

They cannot shout words, numbers, or make noises that mimic the quarterback’s cadence. They can talk and signal but cannot make it seem like a cadence. I agree with Everett that we should continue to teach because it is really hard to enforce.

I think Everett's point was also that it should be used judiciously. In this exact scenario it would have caused a 5-yard penalty for the offense if they called it that way, and it only ended up costing the defense half the distance to the goal which inside the five doesn't really matter. And yes it is very subjective so there are times when it might result in a false start so it's worth it. Of course the coaches know all this and more so I'm sure they know what they're doing.

I have never once admitted to being a bad fan. Because I'm not one so I wouldn't admit to that. I did say I had been more negative (on the board) this year than usual which is true. It's called having high expectations and voicing my opinion. I'm also happy to admit that the team has mostly proven me wrong. When they win the Natty then I will be completely proven wrong and happy, happy, happy to admit it.

I don’t care if anyone agrees with me. I think it’s funny when people like you say that. I like it when people speak up against me. Then I can point out how and where they are wrong. Yes, I point out stupid comments. I mainly just support the team, provide info and have some banter. I have gotten good at spotting weak and bad fans. In case you wonder, my goal is not to win a popularity contest.
 
MSU got called for this a lot in 2024. The refs didn't call it delay of game, they called it drawing the offense offsides, or something like that. It seems there was never the same name for it.

It seems quite a bit unfair the offense can try to fool the defense, but not the other way around.

I point out incorrect things and statements at times. Don’t care if anyone agrees with me. I like seeing who doesn’t agree because that tells me something about their knowledge of the program and the game of football.

"Disconcerting signals" and you're right....MSU was called for it a handful of times a few years ago...I don't think it was 2024, but yeah, you're right.
