Let's pretend the university finds a gold mine under the quad to fund those extra scholarships.
Sure, we can now offer more scholarships. Now, let's take a gander at the guys we were already attracting. Are there any linemen who can compete and win at the FBS level? No? Huh, so we're going to be taking the same caliber of linemen that aren't crushing FCS competition to the FBS level?
You go ahead and do the math here, and let me know how many Mountain West conference titles that works out to.
As is. Imagine if we weren’t losing recruits to freaking Nevada like we have because we were at the same level..
Griz would be just fine in the MWC.
“Will not be entrusted to the timid or the weak”JMU just took this whole “can’t move up because we want to compete for championships” narrative and turned it on its head. It’s a chickenshit defeatist argument that’s as wrong as it is stale and tired. Watching our old peers rise to the occasion and reach new heights is painful, especially since it seems that so many in the UM leadership circle are unwilling to take the risks necessary to get there.

Definitely could. Arguably shouldCould be Montana.

I agree that the university and athletics needs to grow. But I look at Sac and Idaho as cautionary tales in this. Besides the MW, there are no geographically doable FBS conferences that we can join. This current iteration of the PAC, has signaled that they dont want to elevate a FCS team. The stars need to majorly align for anything to happen.JMU just took this whole “can’t move up because we want to compete for championships” narrative and turned it on its head. Don’t you need to get invited to join a conference? This reductive argument about not being competitive at the FBS level just drives me nuts.
If the UM moved up to the FBS we would see better athletes on the team. Full fucking stop.
We have received invites in the past that we've turned down...Don’t you need to get invited to join a conference?
Cool for JMU, but they aren't going to win a national championship this or any other year. Neither would Montana if they moved up. If you think it's better to be a small fish in a big pond than vice versa, that's fine. But don't kid yourself about what "competing" for championships would mean in that context.JMU just took this whole “can’t move up because we want to compete for championships” narrative and turned it on its head. I’ll assume from the mountain west? What were the terms? We have received invites in the past that we've turned down...
But they charge fees UM could never get away with.
JMU was an FCS program with vision just a few short years ago. They set goals and expectations, took risks, made their moves, elevated their program and MADE THIS HAPPEN! Congratulations are in order for JMU. Talk about ascension.
I am not sure that is true.We have received invites in the past that we've turned down...
