Also, JMU is now a lock to the CFP. May get boatraced. Who cares.
Per-Round Payout Breakdown (Conference/Team)
- Making the CFP (12 teams): $4 million.
- Quarterfinals (8 teams): +$4 million.
- Semifinals (4 teams): +$6 million.
- National Championship (2 teams): +$6 million.
- Expenses: An additional $3 million per round for each team to cover costs.

This reductive argument about not being competitive at the FBS level just drives me nuts.

JMU just took this whole “can’t move up because we want to compete for championships” narrative and turned it on its head. It’s a chickenshit defeatist argument that’s as wrong as it is stale and tired. Watching our old peers rise to the occasion and reach new heights is painful, especially since it seems that so many in the UM leadership circle are unwilling to take the risks necessary to get there.

I agree that the university and athletics needs to grow. But I look at Sac and Idaho as cautionary tales in this. Besides the MW, there are no geographically doable FBS conferences that we can join. This current iteration of the PAC, has signaled that they dont want to elevate a FCS team. The stars need to majorly align for anything to happen.
I think the ship sailed last time the alignment opportunity arose and the BOR didn’t move. If they somehow make a Snowbelt Conference, that would be cool. And immediately competitive.
Don’t you need to get invited to join a conference?

JMU was an FCS program with vision just a few short years ago. They set goals and expectations, took risks, made their moves, elevated their program and MADE THIS HAPPEN! Congratulations are in order for JMU. Talk about ascension.

Cool for JMU, but they aren't going to win a national championship this or any other year. Neither would Montana if they moved up. If you think it's better to be a small fish in a big pond than vice versa, that's fine. But don't kid yourself about what "competing" for championships would mean in that context.
