Weber State Wildcats scouting report

How does putting so much mental energy into hoping the Griz lose every week not make you exhausted all the time?

For your sake I hope you don't wake up one morning, look back on the years of hell you've put yourself through and feel like you've wasted an almost immeasurable amount of time making yourself miserable.
Imagine being mad after a win. Wild.

Some of you hate reality. I like winning national championships, not getting pummelled in the playoffs year after year.

Most normal people can enjoy being a Griz fan even if we don't win it all.

It's okay, though. Sports fandom is a little too much for some people to handle.

Cue the "you're weak" and "you're why we haven't won anything" schtick lmao

Pummeled in the playoffs every year? Like in 2023?

It must be a sad, sad life if you can only enjoy following a team when they win a national title. By the time they win one, you have wasted the year complaining instead of enjoying the ride.

This was exactly what happened in 2023, except that we didn't hear from Steve much between week 7 and the semifinals, despite him getting about 20% of his total posts in the weeks after we lost to NAU lol

He wants us to lose so badly.

My favorite is when he gets on Facebook groups and goes after former Griz players who went on to the NFL and tells them how wrong they are about their opinions on football. :ROFLMAO:

7-5 in playoffs since Bobby returned. Would have had more wins but Griz EARNED 1st round bye in 3 seasons. Losses were twice to very good SDSU teams, one to very good NDSU team, one to James Cignetti (who is the best coach in all of college football) coached James Madison and one to Weber State in tough weather conditions. That is reality.

The Weber loss gutted me. Still hurting for Sneed on that day.

People forget that we were without Humphrey and Akem for that JMU game, and we were STILL only down 14-3 at the half. The way that offense was able to work when both were healthy, I still think that outcome would have been different and a significant game changer for us. Maybe not a victory, but significantly closer.

To be fair, dill pickles are sour.

Man that was one of the best defensive performances we’ve seen. I was so sick I couldn’t join in on the bus group that went down and the way that ended didn’t make me feel any less ill. 2021 and 2022 felt so similar with the defense being so dominant and just wishing we had an offense to complement them and the special teams.

42-41 win @ McNeese – Weber was up 42-21 after a pick 6 with less than 10 minutes in the game, and still almost lost. McNeese would battle back, scoring 3 times, including a 79 yard TD run, and would score with 44 seconds left in the game to set the score to 42-41. Instead of going for the tie, they opted for a 2 point conversion, the ball was batted at the line by a Weber DT, and the Wildcats hung on. Lots of offense on both sides of the ball, almost 540 for McNeese and almost 480 for Weber. Both teams had 2 lost interceptions as well.

38-24 win vs Butler – Weber just gradually out-paced Butler in this game and even had enough of a lead to not let a 17 point Butler run in the 2nd quarter phase them much. Weber’s offense had a real solid 260 rushing and 185 passing, all while their defense held Butler to less than 250 total yards. 2 more lost INTs for Weber though!

43-27 win @ Portland State – PSU sored two garbage time TDs (less than 5 min in the game) to make the game seem a little closer, the Vikings did have over 300 yards passing but seemed generally disinterested in rushing the ball effectively – just 65 yards on 33 attempts. Meanwhile Weber’s offense got some footing, 220 rushing, 150 passing

I could see a bit of a slow start here but then Montana gets rolling as the game goes. I’d love to see some depth guys get some extra reps and time so some of our starters aren’t taxed as much – but that’s going to require earlier execution so the Griz can have a solid lead. In yet another “not so comfortable at half” type of games, I see Montana pulling away and winning 42-10.

They've beaten McNeese, Butler and PSU. The closest this game is going to be is at the opening kickoff.

Score Prediction:
Grizzlies 55
Wildcats 16

Detailed prognostication sure to go wrong:
Griz lead 31-9 at halftime, behind 4 rushing TDs from 4 different players: Gilman, Ah Yat, Rocker, and Wortham. Weber scores on a busted coverage 65 yard passing TD (but miss the 2pt attempt) and kick a 40ish yard FG as the 1st half clock expires.

The Griz score TDs on their first two possessions of the 2nd half (Gilman 70 yard run and a Brooks Davis jet sweep) to go up 45-9, and the 2s and 3s play most of the 2nd half. The defense gives up another long passing TD, but the Griz 2s respond with a long drive culminating in a Jake Jensen screen pass TD to Monte Gilman.

The Griz run for 350 yards, with 8 different players getting a carry (Gilman, Rocker, Wortham, Davis, Ah Yat, Jensen, Fonoti, Reynolds). They dominate the TOP 38:00-22:00.

Eli Gilman wins Big Sky POTW with a 160 yard, 2 TD performance on just 15 carries.

How those seasons could have gone without QB injuries and a backup that just couldn't put it together... I will always wonder. Those defenses were special, and the offenses were good before the injuries. Will never forget the image of Cam and Akem standing together on the sidelines, hurt and unable to finish out their careers like they wanted. Hearts breaking.

You seem to have forgotten we were also without our shutdown CB, Hicks Onu, arguably even tougher to replace. Cignetti exposed our lack of depth there and torched the replacements.
