Stop complaining about the OL and give them some love

So question for the experts. If a coach calls for a run up the middle out of pistol or shotgun with a single back against a stacked box and play goes for little or nothing the line gets a bad grade for that play?
If the coach calls for a jet sweep and the team picks up 50 yds the line gets a good grade for that play?
Or is it just total yards and averages? Does it take into effect pancake blocks?

Seems to me play calling could play a part in bad grades for o-lineman.

I wasn't going to post their grades that is bullshit. It sure does let you know that certain people blow a lot of smoke up peoples asses on here when they don't know shit about the OL!

You can't hide facts.

Different schools grade differently some just use plus minus and others use adjusted line yards etc

We grade individually not cumulatively

First of all those numbers should be between a player and his coach. "What happens in the locker room stays in the locker room". Second I am a big privacy advocate and that is personal information. If you want to buy it from the individual fine, if not its his info
Can’t anyone access that through the site? *if they pay?

Are you talking about the PFF grades Colter posted? I'm confused, those are public info from a 3rd party.

Never mind.

I don't want to get into a privacy conversation on the internet. Continue without me but remember the OP that posted how great this OL is was so wrong it hurts and he doesn't know a thing about the game. 60-70 is average.

I thought the opposite. I thought they pretty much match what we’re seeing on the field. Pass protection is improved and continuing to improve while run blocking has stagnated or gotten worse
I meant more in terms of who is playing over another player who actually grades out better than them. Seems strange.

For sure the sacks allowed have gotten better, as a combination of better pass protection and a Ah Yat seeing the field better and getting the ball off sooner. The Griz OL has done much better lately than they did earlier when they gave up six sacks to North Dakota. The playbook has opened up because the team overall is executing better.

Third and short was difficult just two games ago, which is concerning. We had three posessions of 4 plays or less and less than 10 yards total. Sustaining drives is important. It's the measuring stick that matters.

Listened to the Griz Fan pod. Great discussion and at least there is no sugar coating by Kyle. He just called it like he saw it. Griz haven’t been dominant on the Oline in 10 plus years. I think he might have said 12. Wow! That’s a statement and one that’s really hard to argue. I think Luke also pointed out how tough it is to keep solid FCS Oline that are quality players. They get NIL money and move up. Knowing all that, MSU seems to be doing better in the trenches. Something is not optimal with the Griz Oline and recruiting. 3 coaches in 3 years might have something to do with that. Here is one thing I would bet my retirement on. Bobby Hauck isn’t asleep at the wheel when it comes to the Oline and recruiting. He had it easy his first go round. Not the case now. My question is this. Why the heck do Idaho State and Cal Poly have highly rated Oline’s and why are the Griz are lagging behind? Academics, facilities, coaches? It sure as hell isn’t running backs and the desire to run the ball. Something is off!!

The OL is playing fairly well and improving. Pass and pocket protection are good. Rushing yardage is consistently good. Yes, sometimes there aren't holes for the backs, but, again, teams have been loading up against the run and Gillman. The OL is two-deep.

I don't profess to be an OL expert, but, man, some of the OL comments are out to lunch. Jeez, ask someone who knows about OL play, watches games, and follows the team.
I agree with you, but this won't come back well with all the spoiled, meeling-mouth a -holes we have here. Everyone on Egriz knows more than the coaches know.

It takes a team effort to block on run plays and I don't see the WRs and TEs blocking grades from PFF. I would say with the amount we use WRs and TEs in the blocking scheme, they might bolster the overall blocking grades. With that said, it's skills versus wills. Does the OL have the skills and wills to block. Coaches and players have to figure it out. Time for DOLA!

On a different note, is it possible they've been working on technique and haven't shown all of their Oline schemes and techniques yet? I might be getting old and losing my memory but I don't remember many pulls or cut blocks, if any, in the games so far. I seem to remember the Griz Olines in the past doing more of this.

Those numbers actually track pretty well with what we’re seeing. Decent to good pass pro and sub par run blocking

Perhaps the issue isn’t the “blocking” per se, but the fact that we seem to consistently run INTO a stacked box where there’s 6-7 guys coming after the RB and only 4-5 guys blocking? Do we not have the ability to check out of a run call when they’re playing 7-8 guys so close to the LOS?

My man. I hadn’t read the entire thread yet. You and I are on the same page.

A number of people who follow the program closely are pleased with the OL play. The group had to find their way with a new OL coach, who by the way, came to the program with a fine resume. But it was a new coach and new style. One of the things I have appreciated is the constant pounding of our OL. By the fourth quarter most of our opponents' DLs are tired. Plus, a lot of kids have played. That will lead to their development and our depth.
