Stop complaining about the OL and give them some love

The OL is playing fairly well and improving. Pass and pocket protection are good. Rushing yardage is consistently good. Yes, sometimes there aren't holes for the backs, but, again, teams have been loading up against the run and Gillman. The OL is two-deep.

I don't profess to be an OL expert, but, man, some of the OL comments are out to lunch. Jeez, ask someone who knows about OL play, watches games, and follows the team.

I think the biggest issue(s) with the OL is consistency. I also think that we are hoping at some point to return to (don't use that term anymore) and dominate like the DSU's and Bozangeles in the past. Most of us feel like a dominant OL and DL and the Griz are in the hunt. If they can continue to improve in both trenches, then there is a chance to make it to Vandy!

FWIW, according to Colter Nuanez they're graded very poorly by PFF

I don’t know how to find those PFF ratings, but I assume they’re at least a decent indicator of performance, and that they know OL play

Interesting stats:

NDSU has given up 7 sacks in 140 pass attempts (1 every 20). UM has given up 15 in 234 pass attempts (one every 15.6 pass attempts).
NDSU QB's are 103/140 (73.2%) for 1757 yards, 13 TD's, 2 INT's. UM's QB's are 160/234 (68.38%) for 2129 yards, 15 TD's, 6 INT's
NDSU's RB's have 304 rushes for 1695 yards (5.58 ypc and 25 TD's). UM's RB's have 277 rushes for 1301 yards (4.7 ypc) and 21 TD's.
NDSU scores 43.5 ppg. Montana scores 40.43.

I don't profess to be an OL expert either, but shitty O-lines don't drive an offense putting up 40+ ppg and almost 5 yards a carry.

I get that some plays break down and they're not perfect, but apparently neither are the OL of the greatest team of our generation (sarcasm).

I also get that comparing stats is a fools errand given the difference in competition, but let's just look at common opponents and we can see that there's not a uuuuuuge divide between NDSU and UM.

Time will tell. We shall see...

They are not playing very well and the way they grade out after games are proof of that. I have talked to a few that are upset about the way they are graded. Its common

PFF ratings are useless for the most part. Hell, this last weekend they had Geno Smith rated higher than Mahomes for this week's games.
Truthfully, outside of a quick ChatGPT search I’m not well versed in what they are or how they’re compiled, and have no idea how accurate they are. I’ve just heard Colter Nuanez reference them on his shows.

PFF is largely BS at the college FCS level. Show us the recent grades in past several games.
Like I said, I only know that colter referenced them on his show yesterday when he was talking about the game vs SHU. I’ve never seen the PFF grades and know next to nothing about how they’re compiled or how accurate they are. Are they NFL scouts doing this compilation?

I rewatched the SHU game and watched the OL and DL exclusively during that third quarter. They got pushed around. Go back and watch yourself if you don’t believe it. I can’t be the only one that does this every week. I go and watch each play a couple times to see who is getting beat, and all il say is that the lines got beat like drum fairly often for a good portion of that game.

Its done at every level of football, UM uses a plus minus for OL. The total plays involved is divided by that number for a %. If you grade out below 85% you should play soccer

Yea, watch the 4 and 1 failed attempt specifically. You'll see two O linemen getting their butts handed to them on that play. Not going to call out their numbers, but man, that was sad to see.

But SHU didn't have skill position or special teams guys on level with ours, so we won the game going away. No team is perfect.

Like I said, I watched the lines exclusively. Do the same and tell me I’m wrong. 🤷‍♂️ we’ve got elite skill position players who were playing against a very undisciplined and overmatched secondary. That they won those matchups and were able to score quickly the way that they did was no surprise. I was looking at and commenting on the line play. The question I have when watching them exclusively is whether they can just physically impose their will in a game. Against SHU that should have ostensibly been the case. It wasn’t
