Instate Recruiting

How many on here truly watch High school football or have paid any attention in the last 6 years? Just in the AA alone you can see how much the talent has dropped off since 2004-2005. Like most have said here, Montana is recruiting the best players in the state for the positions they need, there just isn't as many as there used to be. Also, the borderline PWO that Montana used to get are now considering the Frontier, which again the portal has a lot to do with. It also works both ways where a kid can now develop at the Frontier and move up to this level. Kids are picking schools based on degrees just as much as legacy. If we lose a kid because we don't offer that degree or vice versa, it's water off a ducks back. Montana is doing fine recruiting, people seem to think the cats have ran up some 16 game winning streak against Montana. HA

Absolutely nobody is arguing that.

However, pick any amount of in state OL and DL that are picking MSU over UM and you start to see a problem.
 
Griz have a commit in Wesley Ehret from Belgrade. He is Junior Adams son. Junior was almost a God at MSU. He had offers from both schools according to some articles, and he has chosen to be a Griz. He is also ranked top 5 in the 247 list best in state. So this stuff works both ways. They gets some studs, we get some studs, and really at the end of the day, there’s probably only four or five Montana kids total per given year who can make an impact (eventually) at our programs.

I do not consider the cats getting someone over the griz (or vice versa) unless there are equal offers on the table for both kids…..only then can you truly look at did somebody get beat out for a recruit?

According to Ehret himself, he did not get an offer from MSU.

One year between Eli and Jones I think.

I’m saying that nobody is arguing that they should have taken the in state players instead of guys like Eli. Yet, That’s the argument detractors are bringing up. I completely agree with you. No reason you can’t bring all of those guys in.

Just happened with Presley.

Choate was a phenomenal recruiter, but I would give more credit to BJ for his HS connections throughout the state. Choate is gone and he is the one that recruited most of these players from the All Big Sky teams. Where is the evidence that we are getting trounced in state recruiting since Vigen has taken over?

Take Hooked’s criteria of both schools offering a player and go through that list for the past 4 years.

My argument, there was not instead. It is only instead if they were being recruited in the same class.

And so? If we get better players form out of state what does it matter? Here's some trivia, UM has ONE kid from Montana on the Basketball team. I don't care where the players come from.

No reason? How about sheer positional need and scholarship numbers. I’d say those are two huge reasons.
 
can the griz count ah yat as an in-state kid? it seems like we should. the reason? just because it feels like he's a montana kid. facts don't matter any more, so hey, why not?
