As I was listening to Bobby in a recent interview, saying these things about the team, again, I was reminded of my playing days and preparation. I too just listened to the coaches and did exactly what they told us/me to do. I completely trusted them and their advice. I didn't look at the big picture of the other team. I just did what I was told and prepared to do in practice and in film. Oven in particular seemed to be saying, "We just listen, prepare, and do what we are coached to do", or something like that.
In watching the interview, I was reminded of how little I knew about the big picture or the opposing team overall. As a defensive player, I recall knowing almost nothing about the other team's defense. I just listened to the coaches, practice what they wanted, and did and executed what I was told and taught. Pretty much in my own little world. In the game, that's all I did. Just focused on my own little world on every play, made sure I didn't make a mistake, and played as hard as I could. Most of the time, everything worked out for us, and for me.
Any other former players want to weigh in on this? Anyone else? All comments welcome.
