Riley Wilson - AZ - "Is going to be a household name in Tucson by end of the season", say his coach

Virtually there's not? So, what you're saying is in reality there is.
That discussion is too subjective to reach a conclusion where everyone here could ever agree. Particularly someone like you that wants to make such comments. I doubt the Arizona staff would say what they are saying about him if he wasn't well coached at Montana.
Hikes just being a douche. AZ coach already said he thinks very highly of Hauck as a coach. If he didn’t think much of his coaching abilities, he probably wouldn’t take his recommendations on reaching for an FCS transfer.

You don't think they watched film on him and said with quality coaching, he may live up to his potential? He was picked as the pre-season D player of the year and on several All-American teams. He went backwards. Hoops said players get better each year. We evidence with him that he didn't.

Good thing defense is a one man job. Too bad we couldn’t send 10 other dudes out there with him. You’re a fool if you think individuals production doesn’t drop when team defense goes down.

Funny shit here. I'm guessing every coach in America would disagree with you. Great players make other players great.

Trumaine Johnson, Huntsberger ?
Not even close. Biermann was named an All-American by Walter Camp, the Associated Press, the Sports Network, and the American Football Coaches Association. He captured Big Sky Defensive MVP honors and the Buck Buchanan Award and was voted 23rd on the Big Sky Conference's list of "50 Greatest Male Athletes.''

And Huntsberger got a Heisman vote. They are all Griz greats. You’re an absolute d-bag. I’m more convinced than ever that Hauck stole your gf at some point and Wilson must have stole your daughter. Keep sucking down those sour grapes though.

He did get better. You don't understand football. He had terrific coaching at UM. He told me that. The team and the D went backward; not Wilson.

Please explain your logic here. How does a mediocre player become better from having a superior athlete on the field? Is he faster? Is he smarter? Is he more athletic? More likely the superior athlete picks up the mediocre athletes slack. Not to be like PR but your statement is stupid.
You're kidding, right? You don't see how having a superior d-lineman allows the LBs to get less attention from the opposing offense, or how having an elite receiver makes other receivers and the QB better?

A LB getting less attention does not make him better. An elite receiver does not make the QB’s arm stronger or his brain faster. Again, quit dodging the question. In what way does a mediocre athlete get better? Faster? Stronger? Smarter? He’s not better because less attention is focused on him. It’s just now easier for a mediocre athlete to make a play. The only way you’re dumb enough to believe this is you must’ve been a mediocre athlete “made better” by all the great players around you.

And I thought Hoops was the dumbest person on egriz.

I was waiting for a response back on Vince Huntsbeger's Heisman vote too, but that ain't happening either.

In 2023, we had a great defensive end that won the Big Sky Defensive Player of the Year award by the name of Alex Gubner. He left, as tends to happen, and they brought in Pat Hayden from Monmouth and told us that he would remind us of Gub. In the three games I went to at WA-Griz in 2024, I thought my memory was slipping though. Hayden wasn't getting double teamed he wasn't putting pressure on the QB that often and it was easy to see that he just wasn't what they advertised. In fairness, those were some big shoes to fill, but still, there was a big open space over there compared to the year before.
If the comparison being made is saying Riley Wilson played better behind Alex Gubner and failed to preform behind Pat Hayden, that isn't fair either. If every player is supposed to be putting out their 1/11 share every play, Gub was damn near 2/11 by commanding a double team. Hayden was at 1/10 a lot of the time and that caused everyone around him to have to cover more space. They didn't need to go toward Wilson because the offense took advantage of that void.
There was, if I remember correctly, that game where Riley was also DQ'd for a bogus targeting foul that somehow got held up on review that cost and entire game. I think it was him, but might have been Harris.
Just saying he played better with Gubner is not accurate though. He took advantage of the opportunities and played well in 2023. The offense could avoid him in 2024 because they could be more productive going away from him.

Hike would tell you that Gub I was waiting for a response back on Vince Huntsbeger's Heisman vote too, but that ain't happening either.

Hike would tell you that Gub being on the field made Riley a faster, stronger, smarter athlete. Wait, I could be wrong. Maybe Riley made Gub faster, stronger, and smarter. This is so confusing. Maybe I’d know if I wasn’t the dumbest person on eGriz.

This isn't commentary on Riley Wilson because I was a big fan of his and thought he was a great LB both years. However, if a DL can occupy two OLs or disrupt the offense by pentrating into the backfield, then it frees up the LB to make tackles( and sacks and interceptions). In that scenario, the LB needs to be good at filling the gap and making the tackle but doesn't have to shed as many blocks. In the other scenario, the DL occupies only one OL or gets turned and allows the OL to push them back into the LB flow. In that scenario, you need a much better LB to be able to shed blocks and anticipate the play and be at the point of attack before the offensive player gets there. This is how a great DL can make a LB look much better while a poor DL can make a LB look average. On run plays, 1st and 2nd level need to work together, with support from 3rd level, to make each other look better. On pass plays, all three levels need to work together.

A really good player's defensive production usually goes up when the team defense isn't good.
