Isn’t it about time for a 37?

Wut? You’re the one who started saying some dumb shit about a dumb requirement. Look at your post #25. I was talking about recent history; you were the one talking about requirements from days long gone.

#37 has been handed down 18 times.

Seven of the last ten times, it went to a senior. Will be over 50% soon.

With the COVID year, it’s been worn by a senior the last 6 years.

Like a prior poster said, the way it is marketed now with NIL, that trend will likely continue.

Who knows? Maybe not, although it seems more likely than going to an under class men

Yet with every player that has had 37 during the time you are referencing, those dumb requirements hold. You should head back to the shallow end.
 
It is quite literally criteria that can change at any time based on what the current holder feels like. I know people don't love when I bring this up, but if we are talking recent history, it seems to also be staying within a young men's Christian group on campus, and the new 37 has been mentioned as being "strong in Christ" and things like that when the previous 37 discusses his reasons. Even reading all of the comments here, the reasoning for passing it down has changed from time to time.

Might as well just wait and see. We really have nothing to do with it.
 
Maybe, just maybe, there will be no #37 this year. What if he decides there are no candidates which meet the qualifications? New precedent.

Like many, I hope it is someone younger too but that would be contrary to recent history which is about all I was trying to say.
However, if it goes to someone younger based on the arbitrary reason you mentioned, that would be disappointing and contrary to the fundamental essence of the tradition
 

Grizzly football jersey #37 began its legacy in 1983.

Griz fullback and Plentywood native Kraig Paulson began the tradition of passing #37 on to a younger player who hailed from the state of Montana.

Paulson was known for his hard-nosed play and workman mentality. So the tradition began.

Number 37 has come to represent the Spirit of Montana… hard work, dedication to the team, and tough play on the gridiron.​

There will be one just has not been made public. And yes on defense and an underclassman. Not sure who is holding up release of info but I have my suspicions as to who is holding it up and it's not Gradney
 
In my humble opinion, the 37 legacy itself kind of outshines any one individual player. When a special guest hoists the 37 flag in the southeast corner of the stadium on game day, everyone cheers, not just for all the previous number 37s or the one guy who's currently wearing it, but also for every Montana kid who puts on the Griz jersey and gives his all to the team he loves, including some who never get much recognition.

Having said all that, I'm still just as excited as ever to see who the new number 37 is. Go Griz!
