Trump Considers Executive Order on College Athlete Payments

So - the punishment handed down by the NCAA on UM was self-imposed. #thanksRoyce UM didn't even counter the punishment or anything. UM was like "hey, we did this what do you suggest? And the NCAA was all "sure??" here you go" and UM went COOL! thanks!"

I will never forgive that pansy for nearly causing the destruction of the whole university over some hot dogs because he didn't like the coach.
I could not possibly agree more. That milk toast limp wristed pansy ass changed the trajectory of our institution for years. Never seen anyone tank an enterprise like he did. We're building back and will be great once again, but that guy was so incompetent it is shocking to even consider he held the position he did.

I think we're speaking the same language, except I perhaps have more cynicism and disdain for the NCAA than you. If this was the free market, my opinion is the NCAA would have gone extinct along with blockbuster movie stores and MySpace social media. When they came down heavy handed on UM for redshirts getting hotdogs and chips at the tailgates, in the same era Johnny manziel was getting away with literally whatever he wanted, they were no longer a serious or capable organization. Thus, even though against my natural instincts and beliefs, perhaps a commission lead by the POTUS could be helpful.
I have no faith in the NCAA. I also don’t have confidence that a union for college athletes is realistic in the near term. But collective bargaining seems to be the only potentially viable option to rein in the NIL mess, absent a declaration of martial law and imposition of a dictatorship.

Gonna be an interesting couple of years to see how it all shakes out

"Cooper Flagg might be taking a pay cut to go to the NBA.

Flagg, who is expected to go to the Mavericks with the No. 1 pick in the draft, earned $28 million through two NIL deals during his one year at Duke, reporter Howard Bryant told Bob Costas on “The 92nd Street Y.”

Entering Duke as the No. 1-ranked freshman in the country, Flagg had a $13 million deal with New Balance and a $15 million deal with Fanatics.

It i
s unclear if those figures represent the totality of multi-year deals or a one-year payment.

Either way, the money didn’t distract Flagg from the prize as he won National Player of the Year and led Duke to the Final Four.

The top pick in the 2025 NBA Draft is expected to sign a four-year, $62.7 million contract, according to Spotrac.com.

That averages out to a shade under $16 million per year – or about the same as what another former Duke star, Grayson Allen, earned to average 10.6 points per game in 64 games and seven starts for the lowly Wizards this season.

Celtics star Jayson Tatum has the highest average salary in the NBA at $62.7 million."

that doesn't make sense, he'll be getting more than that $28 million in endorsements, with his $16 million per year on top of it.

The federal government shouldn't be meddling in college sports. Regardless of whether you agree with what the fed proposes, it's still big brother imposing his will on, of all things, A GAME.

The NCAA will land on a workable decision after trying wrong decisions we can't even conceive of. But does Uncle Sugar have the secret sauce? I doubt that.

No longer just a GAME. It's BIG BUSINESS.

Yep, big business. It's still no place for Uncle Sugar. Professional sports landed on salary caps without an executive order from the President of the United States. The NCAA will get there, too.

I......dunno. They (the NCAA) hasn't really "done" anything or "got anywhere" without being pushed (typically). My view of the NCAA:

That seems to be where it's headed. Then we'll be back to"business as usual" ... a public gesture to claim equity among the various programs, with the "real" money going back under the table.
