Griz land stud LB

I hear ya man, but we have looked really "good on paper" at this point for a long time and it's been a long time since it has translated to anything during the season. Hard to get overly excited in the offseason anymore.
When?

The last time we looked good on paper was 2001

We did, and I hear that too. However, let's be honest about that big picture here. The Griz got hot and went on a fantastic playoff run in 2023. Net of that, it's been a VERY mediocre 12+years. That's just the reality of where the program is, and last year was a smack in the nutsack back to reality. Pretty hard to go back and get overly excited in the off season again. Just my opinion.
I hope I'm wrong, but can't help mentioning NDSU, SDSU and MSU all had QBs that could run the ball. McDowell was the only QB like that in the span you are mentioning.

Our D rocked too.

2023 wasn’t very long ago
I completely agree, but if you would read the entire thread before responding to a post from two pages ago you could have saved the rebuttal.

Sorry to be a dick, but I never understand why people on here do that.

You don’t think Dalton Sneed and Jordan Johnson could run the ball?
I certainly do, but durability and size definitely help. For example Gronowski is around 230, Miller is 210, Mellot is 205 and McDowell was 225.

My point being, is that these guys all can run it and take a reasonable amount of pounding and last a full season.

As much as I loved Sneed and Johnson, both just didn't have that sort of size/durability. I also know Sneed was around 215, but we saw how he was asked to run less after he got injured.

That’s cus he ran and still runs like he’s invincible.

OK I got you. We were not good on paper in 2023. Just like 2008. I don't think we are good on paper this year.

What are you talking about 2008 like many Griz teams of that era looked great on paper for FCS with former FBS guys that were recruited around the country and transferred to UM to play right away this was pre free transfer unless you moved down a level like from Oklahoma to Montana.

We had a huge senior class that graduated in 2007 with a ton of great players including Kroy Biermann, Dan Carpenter, Lex Hilliard, Cody Balogh, Ryan Bagley etc. the 2008 team had tons of unknown guys that people did t know would be stars like Mariani and Chase Reynolds, and Shillinger.

Hauck has said the 2007 team is his most talented team ever. We had 11 guys on the roster who were in NFL camps at some point. the 2008 team did not have a bunch of hype.

Some people on here were saying we were gonna go 3-8 before the 2008 season. We all were bracing for a potential losing season after losing all the guys that we did after 2007.

To say they were "good on paper" at the time is insanity.

Not liking this years choice of kool-aid are you.
