Hayden Harris CFL Draft

So how does this work since he already signed as an UDFA?
His NFL rights belong to the Bills. His CFL rights belong to the BC Lions. If he ever does play in the CFL, he must negotiate with the Lions.

He will attend Minicamp and hopefully training camp. If he makes the team (or practice squad), he will stay in the NFL. The Lions will wait.

If he is cut by the Bills and wants to play in the CFL he can only sign with the Lions unless his rights are traded or released.

Thanks y'all that makes more sense now.
Do drafted CFL players make more money than free agents, like in the NFL? I know the CFL pays peanuts compared to the NFL so maybe the salary range is smaller there, I honestly don't know.

(I spent four years in Canada but the extent of my CFL knowledge was learning that their fields were longer and they only got three downs so I decided CFL football was stupid. I was young and dumb so don't hold it against me.)

Hayden Harris signed a 3 year, $2,975,000 contract with the Buffalo Bills, including $10,000 signing bonus, $10,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $991,667. In 2025, Harris will earn a base salary of $840,000 and a signing bonus of $10,000, while carrying a cap hit of $843,333 and a dead cap value of $10,000.

He gets the bonus and guarantee plus a weekly stipend for any training camp.

Average CFL salary is $70,000

Maybe I wasn't clear about how I asked that question. I was wondering if DRAFTED CFL players make more money than free agent CFL players. (Obviously the NFL pays far, far more for both drafted and UDFA. ) Also, if that's the actual average salary in the CFL, that's HORRIBLE, especially in Canadian dollars!!!

That’s the average in USD. The average is around $115,000CAD.

Still minuscule compared to even rookie minimum in the NFL but not horrible for a first job after college.

I hope this becomes a business model for UM, where we take on FBS dropdowns; for them to possibly succeed with us to have one more chance to make the pros. Ideally, they would have at least two years of eligibility.
