This was a tough draw for the Zags, typically they will have a better seed than 8. They destroyed the SEC’s Georgia Bulldogs and played 1 seed Houston close.

Kelvin won back to back Frontier Conference championships in 1984 and 1985 in Butte
Couple of other points (re Wikipedia): (1) Sampson is a Native American from a tribe I never heard of in North Carolina ("Lumbee"). (2) While earning a Master's degree from Michigan State, he served a year as a graduate assistant for Jud Heathcote.

They want to have big programs play close to their campus to get more fans attending. This is why it was somewhat a head scratcher they sent Wisconsin to Denver and Iowa State to Milwaukee. Iowa State to Denver and Wisconsin to Milwaukee would have made more sense geographically.

Michigan coach and former FAU coach Dusty May on whether the NIL/portal will change the little guys going deep in the tourney: "I don't think Cinderella's dead, but I don't think she'll be making as many visits as before."
