FBS worth it

The last couple paragraphs are revealing here. Started thinking it was the logical progression of the whole thing years ago. Would you wager 800 million on new digs if you are going to possibly be squeezed out of the final Big Boy group?

35,000 capacity? Why bother?
The cost per seat is outrageous. I doubt that canopy design is going to be of much weather value. I've recruited in Evanston and that wind coming off the lake is nasty. At least they're keeping the seats close to the field. It should be loud for a third of the seats that the big guys have.

There is no FBS to move to. The Big 10/SEC just moved this weekend to make sure they have 8 of 12, it will be 12 of 16 by 2026. There is no more NCAA in terms of top ranked football, there are no more conferences, there is no landing spot for the Griz. I said a couple of years ago there will be 4 -10 team divisions, top sixteen playoffs. The rest of the old FBS will become defacto FCS. Oligarchs buying smaller schools might give them the push to have a move up/move down but super unlikely. The money will flow to where it has always flowed.

Get used to the Montana football we fell in love with; Saturday afternoon under the big Montana sky against regional competition. Though the players will be paid and most will not be from Montana nor attend the university.

Essentially I agree with your post. However the mood of most e-griz posters is simply to ignore the facts and attempt to compete in a market that is moving steadily away from any sort of "mid-major" situation that still exists in basketball. So, in order to compete in the sad Big Sky, some of you donate to NIL which is a complete farce in that the players are simply getting paid for playing. Some go as far as to donate to the Read society. But that investment will only lead to, at best, a FCS championship which means absolutly shit to 99.9% of football fans. Griz fans, those who don't involve themselves in e-griz, mostly don't give a crap about who we play. Look at next years schedule. They are the ones who come on Saturday afternoons and don't give a rat's ass about whether the the opponent is Western Washington, NDSU, or Alabama. They are there for the party experiance and pay a goodly sum for spending a part, or all of the weekend in Missoula without donating to NIL. So I don't blame the NCAA or anybody but the big boosters who continue to buy into the myth that Montana football will ever be more that a single A team that, with some excptions, moves players up to double or tripple A. UM and MSU have vastly over invested in facilites that far exceed 99% of FCS, teams, but now there is no way that that investment will ever come to fruition in better compition which most fans don't care about anyway. Why not just spend those sunny afternoons playing Carroll or Western? Silly me - its all about money.

Your post is stupid and wrong and you are still an idiot.

At this point I'm expecting the split at the FBS level to occur around 2031 (I believe when the next round of contracts occur). It will be:

BIG10, SEC, BIG12, ACC, Notre Dame and perhaps a handful of other schools who are willing to throw the $$ into it. There are 68 schools in the above Conferences so add 4 more to get to 72, taking TV value, history etc. into account (Boise State, Wazzu, OSU + UCONN)

The next level would be all the current G5 schools plus the upper echelons of FCS, call this D-1AA:

MWC, Sunbelt, CUSA, MAC, AAC

This gives you 65 teams (assuming Davis gets an FBS invite to the MWC) and THIS is the level we should be at. Both Montanas, Dakota States and a few more who want to move up (Tarleton, SAC State etc.)

Both could adopt the format similar to the NFL, have 8 Conferences of 9 teams in each and make them as regional as possible. Granted I'm just theorizing here but unfortunately whatever makes the most $$ is all that's going to matter.

Really how long did it take you to figure that out ?

Agree in general with your take on the direction, have for years. Have suspected and given the most recent rumblings I don't think the final Big Boi number will be 70 something, more like 30 something programs. There is no conference or any kind of loyalty left. The golden rule, those who have the money make the rules, rules. They best be careful about unintended consequences including state and federal pols, alienated fan bases and general disgust over the naked money grubbing all around. Economic reality is one thing but eschewing the whole basic value system that has drawn people to intercollegiate competition (character building, teamwork, etc., etc.) seems risky for a few extra million. I'll add any arbitrary time frame (you use 2031) seems irrelevant, no contract of any kind seems immune from buyouts, payouts or bribes. It really is the wild, wild West again.

The NCAA is giant, fascist, money-grubbing organization. The SEC, Big Ten, Big Eight, and the ACC are corporations trying to get their financial piece-of-the-pie; and they will make any concessions to get it. The rest of us a ma and pa businesses, and we'll never get anything but some leftover crust. I like the ma and pa business that we are. I like going to Washington Grizzly and watching the team play their asses off, screaming rabid fans yelling at the refs, and crazy guys throwing Twinkies in celebration. Call me old school, small town, or just old fashioned, but the Griz football experience is something I friggin' love. I started sharing it with my kid when he was 2 years old, and he loves it. I'm just a simple fan. Go Griz!!!

We may be ma and pa, but Main Hall gets a financial piece of the pie from our stadium. So what’s the difference?

Different kind of money. We're talking rich vs. wealthy. Millions vs. billions. An Albertson's pie vs. Any good pie.
I see your point, however, the revenue from our stadium determines the decision making regarding the future of Griz athletics.

I still don't get what "move up" people think we would be moving up to? There is no more NCAA football. Do we have 8 figures in our NIL to compete with Alabama and Texas? There are maybe, and this is a stretch, 40 teams that can pay at that level. Should we move up to MAC, WAC, FRAK? Why? Do you think Utah State or Florida Atlantic is any more relevant than Northern Colorado? Enjoy Saturdays in the Fall in the best Stadium in all of football.

What financial piece of the stadium does Main Hall get? Anything to do with football?
The Dennison accounting schemes are still in place. The game concessions go to the Food Program and the substantial revenue from gear and logo sales goes to the Bookstore. Main Hall's support to the AD is primarily scholarships which they book at full value while they are incremental, making it look bigger than it really is. The AD funds its own expansions and facilities development and it's football revenue that supports the entire AD. The student activity fee is one of the smallest in FCS. It's the money that Main Hall doesn't have to give out for these football supported activities that is very different from other FCS institutions.

Yes, I think Utah State is more relevant than Northern Colorado. In fact, I think Montana Tech is more relevant than Northern Colorado.

Yes Fbs G5 or G6 would be a huge upgrade to our football schedule. If anyone says playing northern Colorado, Portland st, nau, idaho st is equal to Wyoming, Nevada, air force, unlv, Colorado st, boise st, they need to have there head checked.
Yes we can compete and have the infrastructure to be competitive. Would we the school everyone is chasing in the conference anymore. No, but we would competitive. Freaking Portland st plays at a high school stadium and look northern Colorado stadium and most of fcs don't hold a candle to our infrastructure.

Our attendance is better then most of the new mwc, about middle of the new pac. Our tv ratings is better then most of the new mwc, and pac. So we would be a value to those conferences. Our only real draw back is out tv market. The dakotas and montana have no people. Maybe 3 million combined
Our fan passion, tv ratings, and our name is what sells.
We will not move up till all the courts, nil lawsuits and new regulations are in place. We will not hear anything till maybe April when the tv deals for the pac and mwc have clarity. Mwc commissioner has even publicly stated this. The fcs is not on the board till this is all done. She had said they are very interested in major fcs programs but will not make any moves till all the lawsuits and that bs, is done.
