BYU AD job open, Kent interested?

Kent is a good guy, but totally vanilla & unexceptional. If you're goal ia shooting for "above average", then he's your man.
Outside of ndsu and sdsu, name another AD who has been more successful. Not just in wind and losses (although Kent has been remarkable there), but in fund raising, facilities and new programs.

If above average and vanilla means you're top 3 out of 130, Ima prolly take it

While it pains me to give the guy credit, look about 200 miles east of Missoula to an AD who’s has much had more success In far fewer years. The all -sports trophy has resided in Bozeman for 7 of the 8.75 years Costello has been at the helm, and they’re a shoe in to win it this year as well. He’s already raised a ton of money in his tenure, overseen the construction of top tier athletic facilities and there are rumors of a $250 million donation headed to msu shortly. Costello also seems to welcome the average Joe to be a part of rise of msu athletics. I don’t get that vibe from Kent, at least when I’ve been in the same room as him.

Is the $250 million for the athletic department do you know? That is one heck of a gift for the school regardless!

I think you are spot on about how great Costello has been. Not a fan of the way they handled the DUI situation, but other than that he has just been incredible over there. He and Cruzado deserve a lot of credit for the sports improvement in Bozeman, and I hope that he follows her out the door. I also really hope that $250 million rumor is just a rumor, I've heard it too, though.

I generally know what MSU has done, in terms of improved facilities, fan growth, success on the field, etc., but what has Costello done to assist this? Just curious.

My biggest gripe with Haslam at times has been his internal hires. Shannon was a disaster, Melanie Meuchel was a disaster, Cliff May was a disaster, Allison Lawrence sucks despite how bad some people defend her.

However, every time he has made an external hire with the exception of Stitt, his hires have been pretty good. Citowicki was a home run for Soccer, Stef Ewing is already an upgrade from what Meuchel was in Softball, Doug Fraley has done a great job turning Track & Field around, Decuire was a great hire, Holsinger was a good hire and had a good team last year before his behavior this year derailed him. Bobby for the most part has been good. Even back to Jamie Pinkerton and some others in the past have been good.

External hires have been good. Internal hires, not so much.

Wanting LDS, that cuts out a lot of targets. If you want D1 AD experience, I doubt the pool is extremely deep with LDS guys. On the other hand if there are some at bigger schools the thought of returning to headquarters would be tempting.

We can always count on your positive inputl
I wonder who his contacts are with the "administration" to know that they want Status Quo. I know Bodnar and some regents, and they don't want Status Quo. They want to do what's best for the University and to help make it grow, thrive, and be successful.

Are you classifying Travis and Bobby as outside hires? I wouldn't. They are from the Griz family. I thought Holsinger was the wrong hire from the get-go, so I don't see him as a good hire. What good hire gets run out of town for supposedly pushing a female coach? I've never heard of most of those other coaches. Ha. I think your information. Thx.

He deserves no credit for Travis and everyone knows it wasn't Kent who made the decision to bring Bobby back.

I consider Travis and Bobby outside hires because they were not on staff at UM prior to becoming the head coach.

Why does he deserve no credit for Travis? And last I checked, the AD is the one that makes the ultimate decision on who to hire. Sure there was a lot of external pressure for him to hire Bobby, but at the end of the day he's still the one that makes the final call. Maybe put your bias aside.

I had heard the majority of the money would upgrade the stadium to meet WGS capacity, possibly a bit more for bragging rights. I’m guessing what ever is left over might go to an NIL war chest.Who knows, could be just a rumor🤷🏻‍♂️
