BYU AD job open, Kent interested?

BYU is big time. I’m sure Kent would apply but I doubt he’s “connected”. I could be wrong but that is a very political job.
On the other hand I wish they’d hire Costello from Bozeman. He’s done an incredible job at msu.
I would think the compensation package is north of $500k.
And speaking of NAU I think that would be a good move for Kent, but again I’m not familiar with the politics.

He's not leaving UM to go to NAU. As for BYU, they have pretty strict rules on who they can and can't hire. You have to be an active practicing member of the LDS church. Kent would meet that criteria but I bet there's lots of internal options and people across Utah that would be higher on their list.

Why?

And how would Ingram be new blood?
Dan hasn’t been the captain of the ship = new blood. I would like to see the program under his leadership….if he even wanted the gig. I’ve met Haslem a handful of times. I don’t have anything bad to say about him whatsoever. Just not my kind of people.

Because AD’s eventually wear out their welcome simply by the decisions they make doing their job at a particular university. Case in point: hire Bob Stitt instead of Hauck, piss a group off and lose their support. Fire Bob Stitt and hire Hauck, piss a different group off and lose their support. Fire Shannon Schwen… don’t have the right answers for moving up… the list goes on. Eventually you have alienated all your supporters and it’s time to start fresh again. NAU probably is an option.

Great guy. Not visionary or highly motivated in any sense of the word. We need someone outside the typical UM interbreeding circle to bring in new enthusiasm and excitement. Our Athletic Department has been satisfied being stuck in the success of 1990-2010. Recent success or lack thereof is proof. More of the same should not be acceptable. The same was true at the university senior leadership level until Bodner came in to shake things up. He’s slowly doing so, even though it’s like turning the titanic around sometimes.

What would you define as success, or lack thereof, for the athletic department?

Have to have experience in managing a tax free multi billion dollar venture capital firm.

OK - edit - dove a little deeper. Utah State's AD is making about $550,000 a year, almost double what Kent's making here. I was originally incorrect in reading area AD salaries were on par with Montana's. BYU would be a huge step up for him! If he's interested I'd bet he applies!

Looks like Haslam will get himself a $10,000 bonus if Men's Basketball makes the NCAA tournament. Could've already got it if Soccer wouldn't have choked.

Without commenting on whether Kent has been good or bad or in-between, I don't think he has alienated a lot of groups or people. That doesn't mean everyone is excited about him.

As I recall, he IS Mormon, right? Thats 'connected.'

Why? Because Kent has become stale here. He’s familiar with the program from previous employment. Larger student body to draw revenue from

you are correct, Kent is LDS and his children have gone on their missions. By “connected” I was referring to his not being part of the inner circle of BYU sports. It’s my understanding it’s a pretty tight circle.
I’m not sure if there’s a requirement to be Mormon but you sure as hell give back your 10%.
