Halftime show. What can be done to bring back the student section for basketball games?
Here's one: How can we minimize the rampant commercialization associated with game day at our sporting events? Seems every time some athlete sneezes or scratches or scores it is "sponsored" by so and so. Red zones, three pointers, touchdowns and just about everything is interrupted with ads assaulting we fans either in the loudspeakers, commercial ribbons all around the field/court and big screens ablaze with commercials. They may make money for the U but they make this fan grow weary of the whole event.
I’ll trade for thatHow about opening up beer sales to all in the stadium instead of select areas only. Give the proceeds to the collective for NIL
I’ll drink to that️
Really pulling for women's wrestling, if that is the case. There is a real opportunity to get out ahead of other schools by fielding a team, and Montana is developing a decent pipeline of young women's wrestlers.Hypothetically, if UM were to move up to FBS and we needed to add a Women's sport, what would they add? I have a couple things in mind but would be curious if they'd about this at all.
The 2 that came to mind for me are Swimming and Beach Vollyeball. Swimming would be easy because we already have a facility on campus (may need a few renovations), but the drawback is Swimming rosters are huge. There's like 50 kids on a college swim team. Beach Volleyball would be easy because it's a much smaller roster 10-12 and it takes nothing to go lay down sand somewhere on South Campus so they have a place to practice. If Boise State can do it in a cold climate, why can't we?Really pulling for women's wrestling, if that is the case. It would be weird, I agree. I see a lot of opportunity and green space there, but you're right that it would feel weird. It may also have us behind the 8-ball in that we do not already have men's facilities set up. It just kills me that we have no real wrestling program in Montana, and I guess my bias was coming out there. The 2 that came to mind for me are Swimming and Beach Vollyeball. Women's Wrestling I think literally just got added as an NCAA sport like in the last couple weeks. It'd be weird to see a Women's team for that and not a Men's team IMO.
I believe they can and I forgot to mention that in my original post. Obviously not all of them would participate but what it would do is give you flexibility with scholarship numbers. The majority of the players would have normal Volleyball scholarships and the select few that play both could have the Beach Volleyball scholarships. Makes it easier get top notch Volleyball players because just about everyone would be on scholarship. It would be weird, I agree. I had never pondered beach volleyball. That would actually be a ton of fun as a sports addition. I don't know if this is possible, but would our volleyball players be allowed to do that in their off season like cross country runners sometimes do long distance track? There is a lot about that idea that I like as I mull it over.
New scholarship limits for beach volleyball is 19, women's swimming is 30. Women's wrestling is also 30.The 2 that came to mind for me are Swimming and Beach Vollyeball. That'll never happen. Boise is a big revenue generator for the Big Sky and most teams (not all) like the neutral site. Plus on campus tournaments are a thing of the past. I think the only 2 conferences that still do it on campus are the NEC and ASUN. Just about everybody else hosts theirs at a neutral site or pre-determined site. I do think they should move it out of Boise though. I think Spokane would be much more desirable! This is more of a question for the Big Sky Conference leadership but can we please stop having the Big Sky BBALL tournament in Boise? At the very least it would be cool if a different Big Sky school got a turn to host the tournament each year. I just would love to see playoff BBALL in Missoula again. It's a long shot I know lol
