MBBALL GRIZ v bengals

Amen, Haslam is the problem--LG BBall, Softball, Volleyball, uncalled for firing of Shannon, hiring/firing of Stitt to save his own butt, etc.

I do think hiring Travis was one of his few good hires and we will all feel better about GRIZ BBall in a 7-10 days ( And after tonight's melt down in Pocatello, I think our teams is in for a well-deserved butt chewing(s) from Travis and some pretty brutal, strenuous practices !!! )

Agreed, I think Haslam is the problem.
Decuire was a great hire and his first 5 seasons were awesome. Haslam did a great job with the hire at the time. The problem is Decuire got too selective with his next job choice that he ended up staying at UM far past what anyone thought he ever would and he bottomed out. Now this year we’re seeing glimpses of what a really good and really bad Griz team can look like. There’s no consistency with this team. Remember that it is a contract year for Decuire so if he’s not making a run at the conference tourney then Haslam will be forced with a tough decision.

We will do fine--Travis is a great coach.whose teams succeed on the court, in the classroom and graduate !!!

I don't know too much about pick and rolls, ball screens, kick outs, etc. I do know the basketball season is a marathon, not a sprint. ( I will be the first to admit tonight, we laid an egg, and Travis in his best Harry Truman impression said the buck stops with him, " It's on me ! " )

If anyone's future should be questioned, it's Kent Haslam's. His overall body of work since becoming AD over 10 years ago is not very impressive !!!

probably the worst half of basketball I've seen any team at any level play, laughable.
Boy this one sure sucks. We’re obviously not ready for prime time by any stretch of the imagination. I can’t blame this one on the coaches or the refs for that matter. In lose numbers, I’m too lazy to look up the actual numbers, in 4 of the Griz loses we’ve lost by an average of over 30 points, 30 points. That is not the sign of a good basketball team.
I’ll make an unpopular suggestion, but ripe away if you must. I think Travis needs to sit Money Williams, not only sit him but make him the 3rd or 4th player to come off the bench. Make him earn his right to play with his teammates. Because the way I see it now he’s not being a team player. Sure he’s had a rough go with the loss of his parents, but he’s either wallowing in self pity or he’s just not into the game. His decision making has been terrible. Letting him continue to start and perform the way he has is a disservice to his teammates. At this point I can’t see any major program offering him big NIL deals. And that’s a disservice to himself, his teammates and his family.
Money Williams, it’s time to put up or you know the rest.

I haven't seen Money play. Sport, but I admire your guts, your moral courage for saying what you're saying !!!

On Monday night, I am probably going to wear out my remote control going back and forth between Notre Dame-Ohio State in the FBS football NC and Idaho-GRIZ on SWX, going from being an armchair QB to armchair guard, rinse and repeat, and while I wouldn't make a pimple on Phil Jackson's backside, thanks to your analysis which I can tell is strategic, empathetic and heart felt, I am going to pay special attention to Money Williams' play !!!

Go GRIZ !!!

I'm neutral regarding Money.
I'm guessing, he's got the weight of the world on his shoulders. I wonder, how much rest does he get? He's got to be emotionally fatigued. His coaches and teammates have to see him through this, playing time aside.

He's not the problem. The main problem is team defense. If you notice, the butt kicking have come from quick ball movement in the paint. The GRIZ don't have a true rim protector. Oke and Anderson at least gave opponents resistance in the paint, when not in foul trouble. Sorry, there's not that guy on this roster this season.

DeCuire has to figure out something here.
If it were me, I'd be committing with a consistent 3 man big rotation from our 5 bigs. Commit to having 2 on the court often as possible. Free up SF for Pridgen.
He shouldn't be expected to play 4 at 6'4".

Toughening up Bradtke would likely be the most beneficial help long term. How much growing pains would there be? He's got Hasquet like upside. Ironically, it took Hasquet time to physically go at it too. He turned out damn good though.

Then again, he had coaching familiar with big man play, with big man experience. This staff doesn't have that.

There is one person on this team that deserves the most criticism but because everyone has just come to terms with his barely mediocre play that no one even bothers to post about him.

Money is a sophomore (that missed most of his freshman year). I have always thought the countless posts on this site calling him the greatest thing since sliced bread were a little premature. He is what he is. An inconsistent sophomore that has a high ceiling. Nothing wrong with that.

And its the same team. Consistently inconsistent. THAT falls on the coach.
Like the 2024 football team. Kinda spooky. A basketball ain't a football. Common thread: Haslam.

I think thats the best assessment. As someone who lost a parent at pretty much the same age it took me a while to get back to reality and the things I liked to do. Can't imagine what hes going through losing both. I do think he could benefit from taking a bench role this year, he seems aloof on the court a lot of the time. Not a knock on him at all, but I think its ok to be critical of his play.

At this point Money seems to be an enigma. Regardless of the issues he, Money is dealing with I will defer to Travis if he should be starting or not. Nothing said on this or any fan board is going to change that. But there are always two sides to every argument. Does he implode his own self confidence by not playing up to expectations or is it best to sit him and let him observe the playing field and then let him put his talents to work? I for one don’t have an answer for that.

You touched on the lack of a big man to compliment our strong guard line. What do you expect when we have the smallest coaching staff in all of college basketball? I say that a bit tongue in cheek but not since Bruning(?) have we had an inside presence. There has to be some big men, 6’11” or taller that would be dying to get playing time. The assistant coach Trav brought in a few years ago, and then bolted to msu didn’t seem to have the moxie.
When you send Chris Cobb, all of 5’4”, to recruit the Bay Area he sees 6’7” guys as being 7’ what do you expect? I kid Chris, I love him to death. But that does not diminish the fact that a true big man does not appear to in our future. We need one mean son-of-a-bitch to instill fear in the opposition. Like a Bill Lambier type that ended Larry K’s career.

I have a feeling we’ll all be feeling better after tomorrow nights game. What this team needs is a winning streak and to string some wins together. If they can do that, then it’s a much needed confidence booster and suddenly it could be like pushing a boulder downhill. If we go 4-0 in this home stand, this team will be 8-2 headed into the back half of conference play. The log jam of 2 loss teams in the league will sort itself out starting tomorrow night when the Griz host Idaho. PSU and ISU play each other on Saturday, that will sort itself out as well. UNC goes to Idaho on Thursday, I think they might drop that game. It’s all gonna sort itself out.

Like Bobby says all the time, you wanna play your best Football in November (we didn’t though lol), same goes for Basketball. You wanna play your best come March and we saw the Griz do that last year. We took some licks early, but rallied to finish 21-10 overall and 12-6 in league play. Same goes for this years team. So far we’ve had a couple bad nights, but I suspect come March this team will be firing on all cylinders as we find the right lineups to disrupt teams on both ends and clean up the simple mistakes. Despite last night, we’re still 4-2 in league play and still in second place. Now an our opportunity to go on a run. We got the road split which is exactly what you need to do if you wanna win it come March and now it’s time to show up at home!

I think this team will be just fine come March!
