Friday Night Football Games?

Here are some of the bullet points of the new tv deal:

-5 year deal runs through 29-30.

- Minimum of 4 regular season Football games on ESPN Linear networks.

-Minimum of 2 games will air on ESPN or ESPN2.

- At least 1 game will not feature a Montana school.

-Friday and Saturday games (likely 2 on each night).

If I were a betting man, I would venture to guess that the Griz and cats each get a Saturday night game on ESPN2. The most likely candidates would be Idaho vs Griz on 9/28 and cats @ NAU on 10/4. Beyond that, it’ll be interesting to see what they take. Would they take a second game featuring the Griz or cats? What would the most attractive non Griz/cat game be? Would both of those other games be played on Friday night on ESPNU?

Interesting to see how they would dissect all of that. I do tend to think that if the Griz or cats play on Friday night, then it will likely be a road game. I don’t think the Big Sky would do that to the Montana schools. Griz @ Sac State on 10/25 would be a prime candidate for a Friday night game.

Agreed that both the Cats and Griz get a Saturday night game.

As for the third game, it's almost guaranteed that either the Griz or the Cats will receive that, and if so, it'll likely be on ESPN or ESPN2 again simply on the basis that we can pull in viewership numbers. As for who will get it? The only other game (besides @NAU that you mentioned) is vs UC Davis in Bozeman.

If they choose Montana, my guess would be @Sac State or vs Eastern Washington. But for sure, I see ESPN picking the Idaho game as the guaranteed game for us.

I'm not sure ESPN would take the Davis vs cats game as it's pretty late in the year and that's crunch time for the CFP. I could be wrong but that's why I threw out cats @ NAU because that's really the only other desirable game on the cats schedule this year.

I'm also very fascinated to see what game they take that doesn't feature either Montana school.

Only the bsc (#bsc) would make a deal to exclude their best two programs to appease the other teams in the conference. Can you imagine the SEC doing that: No, we can't show Alabama/Georgia, because we cut a deal to televise Kentucky/Vanderbilt.

It's just one more example of the bsc (#bsc) catering to the lowest common denominator.

I mean that's probably the case in every league. There's weeks where Georgia and Alabama get stuck on SECN and teams like Kentucky and Vanderbilt make an appearance on ABC or ESPN. It's not like that happens every week, but they usually spread the love around as much as possible without relegating the top programs to SECN every week. Georgia and Alabama still dominate the air time on the top networks, but they usually try to at least get every team one marquee tv slot. Same goes for the Big Sky now.

Well, I'd argue that's done more to support their SEC network than anything else. But in either event, doesn't it make sense when you have only 4 games to promote your 4 best games? I swear the bsc wants everyone to be noco or psu.

Hey look, Everett being Everett making a big deal out of nothing.

So for example, a matchup like Davis-Idaho would be a nothing?
No, that may well be worthwhile to televise. But should you codify the need to do so, or just show your best games no matter who is playing, particularly when all evidence suggests that games involving the Montana schools consistently have markedly better ratings.

The bottom line is, the bsc negotiates in favor of their worst programs, while every other (legit) conference does it exactly the opposite, which, of course, is the model any sensible organization would follow.

Can you give examples that are FCS conferences and not use FBS as your basis because we all know that is apples to oranges. Or is your stance that there are no other (legit) FCS conferences.

I'll answer your question with a question: do you believe the MFFC takes actions which benefit Indiana State at the expense of ndsu?

No idea what MFFC is. Also, 'actions' alone is broad. If the MVFC had 4 games on ESPN linear networking, would they be okay if one didn't include NDSU or SDSU, I think they would.
