MBBALL Eastern Game Thread

IDK why people rag on Kent so bad. He's done a pretty good job IMO. Ya he made one bad hire in Football with Stitt, but outside of that he's done a very nice job. Decuire's back on track, Bobby had a down year but I think he'll get us back next year, he finally made a new and improved hire in Softball. Plus let's not forget all the amazing facilities and upgrades he's fundraised and help put us in a position to compete for championships. People need to stop holding the Stitt carrot over his head and move on. It was almost 8 years ago now.

Also the newest NET rankings are out:

1. Northern Colorado 132 (+2)
2. Montana 152 (+18)
3. Montana State 160 (-3)
4. Idaho State 168 (+19)
5. Portland State 239 (-4)
6. Idaho 241 (+13)
7. Eastern Washington 266 (-16)
8. Northern Arizona 270 (-10)
9. Weber State 273 (-10)
10. Sacramento State 343 (+1)

Griz move up 18 spots since the last rankings that includes a close 4 point road loss to San Fran, and then last night finally getting our first road win against a top 250 team in Eastern at the time of the game. We were rewarded for those 2 results. Idaho State with the biggest rise up 19 spots to 168 after their impressive comeback win on the road at NAU last night. Bengals are sneaky. Idaho moves up 13 spots after their impressive home win over the cats. Big opportunity for the Vandy's at home tomorrow against the Griz.

The biggest fall was Eastern who dropped 16 spots to 266 after losing to the Griz last night. A big opportunity for them at home blown last night and they were punished for it. NAU dropped 10 spots to 270 after their epic choke job at home last night. Guess that's what they get for playing such a soft non-conference schedule. Weber also drops 10 spots to 273 after getting blown out by UNC.

We're beginning to see quite a separation amongst the top 4.

Don’t get me wrong I like Kent, I truly do. Can’t remember exactly the year Kent took over for Jim but the circumstances were nothing less than ideal to find a replacement for O’Day.
To say that Kent hasn’t done an excellent job would be a disservice to him. He has been responsible for multiple improvements in the facilities from the women’s softball field to the new Champions center to the new football bubble.
But having said that over a period of time complacently and “good old boy” mantra tends to set in. Not Kent’s fault, but just a byproduct of the system. I’m not necessarily suggesting that Kent should be let go but with all the changes going on in college athletics today it never hurts to have fresh “eyes” on the on the whole program.

Griz depth is difference!
Agreed, and nice win. Despite a rocky start I'm still very excited about our new coach. The reality is that pretty much the entire EWU team is playing for WSU, and Munson only had a few weeks to rebuild an entire starting roster. And even then we've been able to play some decent teams close until depth really becomes an issue.

I agree. He’s a solid proven coach. And his connections along the west coast will help bring in transfers in future years.

There isn't a team at our level who wouldn't kill to have Kent as their AD.

I think he's done an alright job. Not bad by any means, but the fact is that the department is stagnant. Ken is just also not a guy who is ever going to stand up to Bobby or Travis should it need to be done. And I don't think Ken has a vision to grow UM's athletic footprint in this day and age. Feels a bit like we're treading water.

This is the correct assessment. All I am saying is he would be a better fit at Weber. That is the salient point.
