The Coaching Carousel

How was that defense? I'm guessing Weber would like to see it every year.
I thought the D was pretty good this year, except for a couple games and a couple halves. The coaches and a lot of people agree with me. Ya, Weber was a weak game. But there were many other games.

If you look at his entire body of work for his 2.0 stint yes it actually is. Someone broke it down already (somewhere on one od these posts) but the normal has been around a 4th-5th place finish in Conference and a road playoff loss usually in the 2nd round.
No, it isn't. It's not an anomaly to get to the national championship game. It's a great season. It takes a lot of hard work, very good players, and very good coaching. It's not an anomaly to have 2 other 10 win seasons. You don't understand football and never have. You are consistent, tho.

So they have to wait a month to hire a coach? They’ve 25 to Portal already.

As WSU portal entrants eclipse 25, no word on players who might play in Holiday Bowl

[All their players will be gone by the second week of January. Most of their important coaches are gone, including OC and DC.]

[Pete Kaligas came from UW to UM with Bobby.]

"Pete Kaligas, serving as acting head coach in the wake of former coach Jake Dickert’s departure for Wake Forest this week, declined to say.

“I’ve already mentioned that. I mentioned that last time,” Kaligis said, referring to his post-practice availability on Thursday. “I’m not gonna talk about that one again.”

Kaligis did not address that topic Thursday, only detailing the status of cornerback Stephen Hall, who appears to be the only Cougar likely to play in the bowl game. Kaligis said Hall has his transfer portal paperwork submitted but is not ready to move on from the program yet. In recent days, Hall has been posting offers he’s received from other schools on social media.

In other news, about 12 players missed Saturday’s practice because of flu-like symptoms including fevers, Kaligis said. It added another round of instability to the WSU program, which is without a head coach, offensive coordinator, defensive coordinator, running backs coach and quarterbacks coach.

In those coaches’ absence, Dickert had tabbed wide receivers coach Nick Edwards to call offensive plays next week in San Diego, which appears to remain the case.

What’s more uncertain is who will call the defense, which Dickert was supposed to do. Asked about that topic, Kaligis remained mum again.

“Can I answer that question later?” Kaligis said. “I sort of answered that question yesterday, but there’s still a lot in there. We’re good.”

Kaligis addressed some of that topic in his last availability, which was Thursday, crediting nickels/safeties coach Jordan Malone, edges coach Frank Maile, cornerbacks coach Allen Brown, offensive line coach Jared Kaster and assistant special teams coach Justin Mesa for their commitment to the program.

The rest of the remaining coaching staff includes special teams coordinator Nick Whitworth and assistant secondary coach Calin Criner. Otherwise, the Cougars’ coaching staff is made up of graduate assistants and strength and conditioning coaches."

Quite the shit show in Pullman.

The latest Washington State coaching hot board was released today, and something interesting caught my eye:

Bobby Hauck
CURRENT ROLE: Montana head coach

WHY HE ADDS UP: Hauck has made inquiries about the WSU job, sources tell CF.C. And he has done nothing but win at Montana. Over two stints in Missoula, he is 138-41 with 12 FCS playoff appearances and three trips to the title game, albeit all losses. Hauck has never had a losing record at Montana and at 60 years old, he may view WSU as the last stop of his career.

DOWNSIDE: Hauck gave FBS football head coaching a shot and it did not go well. He was 15-49 in five years at UNLV. Round two could go differently, but the body of work for Hauck at the FBS level might be seen as a red flag to the decision-makers at Washington State here in 2024.

He’s at the very bottom of the board but I found it interesting that he’s inquired. Makes you wonder why he would reach out to them.
My friend who knows Bobby well says he's pretty sure this isn't accurate.

After 8 years of waiting , well 7 if you count the anomaly of last year the just wait is wearing thin.
Well keep waiting if you wish or become a Cat supporter. Remember the Griz beat the crap out of them last year but I guess that was not good enough either

The Cougs did well with Mike Price from Weber State, but after Paul Wulff, I would be stunned if the school hired an FCS coach again.
Nothing the Cougs do on offense resembles what MSU does. Would be a brutal transformation.

Thanks for doing nothing but the usual no knowledge cherry picking gibberish and insults you're known for, not surprisng though. If you actually understood reading comprehension I said "entire 2.0 body of work" and should look up the definition of anomaly. If we discount the Covid year:

"Anomaly: Something that deviates from what is standard, normal, or expected."

-2018: 6th in Big Sky, Missed the Playoffs
-2019: 3rd in Big Sky, lost in Quarter Finals
-2021: 3rd in Big Sky, lost in Quarter Finals
-2022: 6th in Big Sky, lost in 2nd Round
-2023: 1st in Big Sky, lost in NC
-2024: 5th in Big Sky, lost in 2nd round

Using the Data we only have made the Semi Finals 16.67% of the time, same percentage of when we've missed the Playoffs.
When compared to 33.33% for finishing 3rd and losing in the Quarter Finals and finishing 5th or Worse and losing in the 2nd round, by definition the NC run was an anomaly and the only silver lining so is missing the Playoffs

The early Hauck years don’t and shouldn’t count towards how Hauck is doing now. 52-19 with 5 playoff losses since 2019. Conf rank is totally irrelevant in uneven conferences. Is conf rank your best argument? Get out of here with this conf rank BS. It’s irrelevant and nobody who understands football cares about it.

You don't get to dismiss an entire season of Football because it's inconvenient for you, and even if we did we still would have only reached the Semi-Finals once and be tied with 2 Quarter Final and 2nd Round losses.

It’s irrelevant to the Hauck discussion. And hilarious that you are trying dismiss his best season and saying I can’t exclude his first season. You are a hypocrite.

Can you read? Seriously? I literally have mentioned the NC season, pointing out that it doesn't change the fact that it has been an anomaly in his overall 2.0 body of work isnt dismissing it. You're the only one trying to dismiss an entire year of football, what a 🤡

Without starting a new thread, what exactly do the Anti-Hauckers want? Fire the entire staff, outside hire, and start over? Promote from within and start over? What realistic thing, as an FCS program in a small town, would you like to see that would change everything tomorrow?
