I 100% do not understand this.
Personally, I like really big lines, but that's my bias. Edwards was roughly his size, and he was good for us. I think losing him hurt us. This kid has also been an all-american, so he can ball regardless of being on the lighter side. Georgia was very successful running multiple, including 3 man, fronts with Nolan Smith as a hand-down DE in a three front at times, and they were the best in the country. Adding a guy like this will help confuse where the blitz is coming from with Wilson also being a threat. He can help get into the backfield as well as add pre-snap confusion based on where we are lining up he and Wilson. I'd imagine it makes us more multiple, and we know that this staff loved having as confusing a front as possible in the past.

That is my read on it, anyway, for how he would fit in our defense.

Kale Edwards was 6’5 with long arms.

Short and light isn’t a great recipe for a 3 man front. They could use him as the stand up pass rusher, but that’s primarily Wilson’s role, and why take your best pass rusher out of his best spot?

With all due respect, Georgia isn’t a good analogy. They’re dealing with physical freaks over there. That’s not the case here.

My point was having both on the field at times can add to some confusion pre-snap, and hopefully some quick pressure. I don't know a ton about this kid, and I'm not trying to make the point that he is a perfect fit or the savior. You just sounded like you didn't see any logic in adding him to the team at all, so I was putting forward a possible logical framework where he can help.

While I agree that Georgia is playing with physical freaks, they are also competing in a conference with other physical freaks. I am not suggesting this kid is as good as Nolan Smith or the Griz are as good as Georgia. But when balancing for talent at our level, this kid has been an FCS Freshman All-American (Both STATS and HERO), was the conference defensive player of the year, and is a Buchanan Award Finalist. He may not be athletic freak enough for Georgia, but he is probably athletic enough. Arm length can matter, sure, but there are exceptions to every rule. I've always cared more about arm length for offensive lineman.

Lastly, I'd just also suggest that injuries happen. Never hurts to have players of this caliber on the roster, even if you don't think they would start over Wilson. But, like I said, you had sounded like you couldn't understand there being any logic at all to it. I was just trying to share the logical framework that made sense to me.
