Tennessee State Tigers scouting report

Cats aren't going to beat the Dakota schools just on the ground.
That's probably true, which is why I said the Cats are fully capable of passing the ball if needed. Plus, there has not been one game where the Cats unleashed Tommy running the ball yes which we all know can be unstoppable at times. Perhaps that can come in the second half in Frisco, if the Cats make it there.

Most people and coaches don't think Mellott is capable of stepping up and winning tough games by passing. It's not impossible, but that's far from his strength. Yes, he's capable of running very well and hurting other teams. But that's where the injury risk comes from.

You can say he was 6-12 for 94 yards with 2 good passes. I will say they were lucky passes. Those are high percentage passes for him. Hauck said that in the post-game press conference.

Far be it from me to come to the defense of a 'Scat player, but I just don't get this argument. That may have been his Achilles the past couple years, but not this year. This year he completed 68% of his passes, threw 22 TD's and just 1 (ONE) INT. For comparison, Montana's 2 QB's threw 19 TD's and had 6 INT's. Mellott had the 3rd highest completion percentage and the highest efficiency rating of the top 14 QB's in the league. He had almost 200 more yards on 15 LESS attempts than Fife. Oh, he also rushed for almost 650 yards and 11 more TD's.

To say he can't "win tough games by passing" seems disingenuous or willfully ignorant. If Montana's QB's had those kind of numbers we'd be pissed if they didn't win the WP Award...they don't even have those numbers COMBINED.

I haven't read this thread, but the two-deep shows only 3 down lineman, with a bunch of backers. Short wide squatty bodies on the d-line, typical of many southern FCS schools.

I don't think so. The Cats won't be able to score. I think South Dakota is the best of the three. The Cats will struggle in that game.
I agree SD has a tall Lefty QB who really did impress me when they came back to beat NDSU! They are for real. Seemed to have good tempo throughout the game as well and a cocky feel to them.

I agree that USD is very good. Knocking off NDSU and then taking SDSU to OT on the road is impressive. My only worry with them in the playoffs is their the new kid on the block. They’ve never been in this position before. They’ve never really gone on any kind of deep run before, and I question if they can handle the moment. Can they win 2 games at home and then go into a hostile environment in Bozeman with everything on the line and get it done? I’m not sure but we’ll find out.

SDSU is better than South Dakota 🤣

Just because SDSU lost to NDSU by 4 points doesn't mean they aren't better. South Dakota allowed North Dakota to put 36 points on them. SDSU has a way better defense. And defense, wins championships.

Come on! Those 22 TDs were all lucky passes or easy for him. That one pick was more evident of his typical type of pass. Bobby said so in a press conference.
