Fife vs Ah Yat - Statistically Speaking

I want to start this thread out by saying I think both quarterbacks are very good QBs and have done a good job for the Griz.

Fife has a cool, calm, collected demeanor and just seems to methodically manage the game well. Ah Yat has some juice and swagger to him and can make some electric plays.

I do think the average fan feels like the offense looks better with Fife. I am somewhat surprised that our coaching staff (who is supposedly veteran and quite seasoned) continues to take the rhythm away from the offense by trying to employ a two quarterback system that is obviously not working.

On top of that, the stats would back up the eye test……here is where we are at:

Fife:
1474 yards passing
66.7% completion %
11 TDs to 2 INTs
7.7 yards per throw
148 Rating

Ah Yat:
812 yards passing
59.7%
5TDs to 3 INTs
5.6 ypt
114 Rating

To me, Fife looks like the better quarterback and our offense runs better with him….and it seems the stats back that up. I feel like our coaching staff is failing us all employing this 2 QB system that is not working.

Are the Griz coaches sticking with the rotation because they are afraid one of them may transfer away if they both not playing? I think you pick one and let him play until otherwise a switch is warranted. At this point I would roll with Fife. If Ah Yat transfers, then so be it.

Holy shit this is a great breakdown and backs up what I said and we all see….

I don't think for a minute they are worried about one leaving. I think they are giving KAY every chance to be the guy, because he is their guy. I fully expect Fife isn't back.

At the end of the day people and fans can complain all they want, and show all the stats they want that support what they think. It’s the coaches decision whether people like or not. Has anyone actually asked Bobby why he is rotating qb’s the way he is? I am guessing not. Most people are tired of this subject.

He said feelings.

I stand back in my original thought. It feels sabotaged... logan is the better qb... get ahead bring in your younger talent like it's always been and get them xp.. I admit I wanted ah yat to go this year but once we let logan take the reins it was clear as day he was the guy... to me the. Biggest issue is coaching is stubborn and unwilling to change regardless of what people or statistics show

I remember when the coaches thought another freshmen QB was much better than he actually was (Kris Brown). How did that work out for them? It'll be a damn shame if Fife transfers after the season, but I won't blame him if he does.

Those stats are somewhat disproportionate since Fife played 3 more games than AY when he was hurt. I do see a few big differences between the two. Fife is not a scrambler you can run a draw with, he's not fast enough. He is the pocket passer QB and he does throw a better spiral and deep ball. Fife is slower with his progressions though and tends to not look off his first or second reads. He forced a bad throw on what should have been a TD. AY will get better with passing on the deep shot over time but his quick out passes and slant passes are good. AYs pick looked to me like a bad receiver route, he was expecting someone to be there. The offense needs to scheme differently with AY. More RPOs or designed QB runs. If Plough said that we change nothing between the QBs for a defensive scheme, thats bad.

At this moment, both QB’s are largely one read QB’s.

If the coaching staff doesn't pull their heads out of their ass and abandon this 2 QB system we are probably going to lose Fife, especially after that now deleted cryptic tweet and I wouldn't blame him. This system has been one of the reasons we lost the UND and now Davis game.

Feels like we're pushing AhYat purely because he's a legacy and maybe perhaps pressure from his dad and some boosters. Don't get me wrong he does have alot of upside, but he's clearly not the guy this season, at least to me. If we're worried about losing one then I'm sorry my vote is to keep Fife and Huot.

I think Fife is already a goner, and I don't think the staff is that worried about it. I don't think KAY being a legacy factors, I truly believe that BH thinks he is the answer.

Then Bobby is a fool, was hoping the coaching staff learned their lesson after last season with Cliff but looks like I was wrong. Ahyat might be the guy eventually but he is not this year.
