Fife vs Ah Yat - Statistically Speaking

Those stats are somewhat disproportionate since Fife played 3 more games than AY when he was hurt. I do see a few big differences between the two. Fife is not a scrambler you can run a draw with, he's not fast enough. He is the pocket passer QB and he does throw a better spiral and deep ball. Fife is slower with his progressions though and tends to not look off his first or second reads. He forced a bad throw on what should have been a TD. AY will get better with passing on the deep shot over time but his quick out passes and slant passes are good. AYs pick looked to me like a bad receiver route, he was expecting someone to be there. The offense needs to scheme differently with AY. More RPOs or designed QB runs. If Plough said that we change nothing between the QBs for a defensive scheme, thats bad.

Both picks were ugly. Each QB threw into the middle of the field while it was filled with white jerseys. Both QBs were trying to force something which just wasn’t there.

As to your other comment, each of them could be better running through their progressions. Yet Ah Yat is slower to decide. Several times our open receivers were covered by the time the ball was delivered. Same is true for him in the pocket. He still holds the ball too long as their rush collapses on him.

Realize I am not a hater. Very pleased Ah Yat is on our team. He has a competitive heart and a good skill set. Though Fife should be our starter until the game is in hand. Simply put it shows he has the experience and talent to be ahead of the redshirt Freshman

Watching the game my biggest concern was our Oline inability to block. Too often we allowed guys to blow in off the edge and engage our RB in the backfield, and we had no success pushing their mammoth DLine around. When we re-establish the run both quarterbacks will look a whole lot better

Did the 2 QB system last year and it looked like they really wanted Vidlak to be the guy until NAU. After that they buried their personal wants and went with the best option, this should have happened by now this season.
At the root, I think it is different. Two transfer upperclassman last year, a high school recruit and last minute transfer because Cliff left this year.
