Playoff predictions

First off, not taking shit from the team that hasn't beaten NDSU since 2005 when they were a mediocre Great West team.

Second, considering where we're at, making the semis would be a huge success with this defense, and that's about as easy as it could get as the 13 seed. Neither of our teams are beating the XDSUs at their home field in the playoffs, regardless of whatever happens in the brawl.

Bingo. Which is why that 1 or 2 seed is vital. Your chances of winning shoot up drastically if you can secure homefield advantage through the semis.

I mean we almost did it last year… and we look better this year and they look worse

I'd sure consider it a very good season if the Griz make it to the semis!

That's an interesting bracket. I think that would be a really good draw for us. We would dust Drake in the first round no problem (essentially a bye week) and then a SEMO team with the same QB we saw just 2 years ago. They have a good team but the OVC is very weak and they don't exactly have any great wins. I think we would win that game in rather comfortable fashion. Then Mercer in the quarters who suddenly doesn't look as tough after getting bulldozed this past week. We'll learn a lot more about Mercer this weekend when they play WCU. Then it would be off to the Fargo Dome in the semis which would obviously be a very tall task, but who knows, maybe the Griz come out of this bye week and they're a completely different team.

Of course, a lot of things are gonna change between now and Selection Sunday, but that would be a very interesting Playoff path. Interesting to look at a hypothetical like that.

SEMO game would be in MO, But I still think you could win that. I think UND would beat Mercer, you would then get a home quarterfinal rematch with UND.

That's a good point. I didn't even bother to look at who Mercer would get in the second round. And I think Griz fans would be all for a re-match with UND in the playoffs since we quite literally gave that game away. I would like our odds at home against them.

People are freaking out over the defense. The performances thus far warrants a lot of criticism, which would include special teams. Still, there is a bye week and a couple of garbage games that should help with getting things corrected. Hauck’s teams always get better as the season progresses. They just do. Can this team pull it together or do they even have the talent on defense to beat UC Davis and the scats? Winning in Bozeman is going to be tough. Bozeman is starting to pile up some injuries, so who knows.

I think the Griz are probably in the Top 8 teams in the country. Strange thing this year is their inability to put away inferior opponents. I do wonder if the Griz finally make a statement win over Northern Colorado or Cal Poly.... Should be able to win handily if the defense improves and their offense continues to play to their potential...

But this team just seems to allow teams to jump up on them early...

I mostly agree. While the Griz aren’t hitting on all cylinders and being consistent, the schedule has been tougher than most realize and everyone gives the Griz their best shot. The Griz don’t give up and have certainly fought back. Fife will keep getting better. The D needs to make less big mistakes. ST’s need to get better. The Griz are banged up, but don’t seem to have guys out for the season, or many f them.

No, Griz had a greater than zero chance last year because of only one FCS loss. You already have two FCS losses this year. That’s pretty much zero chance of getting a top two seed, even if you somehow get past UCD AND MSU.

I wasn't talking about a top 2 seed. Griz don't need a top 2 seed. Griz beat no. 1 JMU on the road in about 2008 to get to Chattanooga. Nobody gave the Griz a chance last year after NAU and at this time other than a few of us. Retired, I believe. And me. And perhaps a few others.

The most important thing for the Griz now is to improve and stay healthy. I can't imagine a no. 2 seed would be in the cards this year.
 
GRIZ a 3 seed after stomping Davis and the bubs. GRIZ Offense is too much for SDSU in the semis, but they lose a close one to ndsu in Frisco.
