Griz will recover. looking at the schedule everyone in the BSC will end up with at least 1 loss. Sounds like nau's qb went down with an injury yesterday. Watch the game again and I think Coach was right basically 3 bad plays and one screw up on special teams. game could have been 48-21...if we don't shore it up next week I will concede we have bigger issues than a few bad plays.

There were only three bad plays that led to TDs in the second half. Weber could run or pass at will. Players were lost. In the second half, they had Wilson positioned where a typical Mike backer would be, and he was just free-lancing. Its what led to the TD in overtime.

I agree. I do think we have problems on D, but unlike others who think we’re just gonna maintain the status quo, I think the coaches will get things fixed. They’re not gonna let this continue. They’ll change things schematically to fit the personnel we have.

Plus I think it’s well known by everyone on here now that every year, the Griz have one loss that they shouldn’t. Last year it was NAU, this year it’s Weber. This happens every year, and yes it’s frustrating, but last year we learned from it. Remains to be seen if they’ll improve from it this year, but to anyone who thinks the coaches are gonna continue to allow this is sorely mistaken. My guess is come next week, we’ll start seeing a lot more zone coverage.

It's been a problem since the second half of North Dakota and will not be fixed because we lack the talent to run this defense. You can't compare what is happening this year to last year.

Agreed. Thinking this is a “tinkering”, or “coaching” or “cleaning up mistakes” moment is really putting the blinders on. 35, 49, 55. That’s the point totals the last three games. Once is a dot. Twice is a line. Three times is a trend. THIS is who we are…gonna be a long 2nd half of the season.

Stop sugar coating! You can cover a turd with cinnamon and sugar and paint it green and it is still a turd! Our defensive coordinators are not good! Tim was a great player but not much of a coach so far. This Ron Bradford isn't impressing me either! No one will convince me that we don't have the players! We do have the players, and they can do a better job, but the coaches need to call the right schemes... The players are doing what they are told. Bobby's special teams are horrible as well! Never seen a special teams unit coached by Bobby be out of position so many times.... OUR DEFENSIVE COACHES ARE HORRIBLE!

We've literally been getting worse on Defense every week since the 2nd half of UND with a sprinkling of awful ST moments

We have very few D players that would be on the field at other top 20 teams.

Bradford was last season, he’s long gone.

Well it starts by zoning more. It’s obvious anyone who watched the last 2 weeks that our corners can’t win 1 on 1 matchups in man coverage. So get 2 high Safeties back there to help them out. Don’t leave them alone on an island.

Would you agree that for the most part our Defense was good against Mo State and the first half of UND? So it wasn’t a talent issue then, why is it now? Yes this defense isn’t as talented as the previous ones, but there’s ways to put them in positions to succeed that fit their skill level. The staff just needs to put them in a position to succeed. There’s ways to do that. They just have to be willing to adapt.

As I pointed out in another post, when we commit to blitzing with a lot of players that is when our safeties get burned. If we load the box and do NOT blitz 6-7 players like in the third quarter Weber suddenly could not run correctly and it frustrated the QB thus the one sack and turnover.
Then the Griz went back to massive blitzing to get to the QB. Safeties got burned and Weber scored.
It is not rocket science but the D coaches are making it rocket science.

Coverage is directly related to pass rush. Both are not at the level we are used to in the past. Missouri State QB diced us up pretty good until the hits our pass rush put on him got his feet and mind moving faster.

I'd say the same thing happened at WCU. If we aren't hitting that QB like we were, then he would have destroyed our defense in the 4th.

To Griz Til I Die's point, though, you can still run some blitz out of zone. I haven't seen us running any nickel blitzes with a zone back side, or dropping three deep while bringing the blitz. In my mind, too often we aren't getting our cb's the help over the top as we ask them to cover in man. We just don't look like we have the speed that some of these teams do, and it is hurting us. There are ways to scheme to help cover for a deficiency in speed.

Regardless, I do still have faith that we will get there. I think it was a bit easy for the staff to write some of this off while we were still pulling out wins. I'd expect to see some serious schematic changes after the bye week. Hopefully some minor ones heading into the NAU game. I'd never give up on being a fan, but I'm not giving up on this season turning around. Not yet.

Sorry bro…strongly disagree. Reread your first two sentences. They apply to the players as well. But we are what we are at this point…EVERY game is gonna be a shootout, and we’ll see how many we can come out on top.

While I admire your faith in the absence of literally any evidence to the contrary whatsoever, I'm going to start calling you DeluluPopo. How can we take your opinion seriously when you were telling the entire board in the 4th quarter that we'd still win by 2+scores?

This is not a fixable issue at this point. We simply don't have the talent or the coaching chops/experience to overcome this black hole that is our defense.

A little realism once in awhile would be nice.

We have the experience… too much of it. Makes people inflexible

Two losses we shouldn't have. UND and Weber. For different reasons, Ah Yat couldn't buy a 2nd half first down at UND and a total D letdown against Weber.

The good news is historically you change your opinion as much as Growler changes his underwear. At least 2-3 times a year.

I think the difference is the gris defense last year was very good and could keep game close. This year the defense has no chance at stuffing passing teams and its going to put total pressure on the offense. The gris made a qb change lat year that then allowed the offense to click. There is no singular change the defense can make and honestly I think this year its poor scheme. The scheme is very aggressive and with a weak secondary and a d-line that isn’t perfect it’s exposing the defense. DC needs to tone down the blitzing and pressure or d-line needs to get better pressure . If not the gris are going to struggle
