If this program gets into FBS, specifically the PAC-12, and is able to host much more recognizable and prestigious college programs while playing in a first class facility -- you're completely delusional if you believe the support won't be there.

The support in the football program has been steadily growing since 2019 when they finally hired a capable coach and then followed that up by hiring a capable and forward thinking AD. Now they also have a capable and forward thinking President -- hence things are really starting to happen. It's not all a coincidence.

Sac State has long been a sleeping giant wrt having the potential to field good D1 FBS level programs. It resides in a talent-rich area with a metro population of nearly 2.5M. It also boasts a top 20 media market.

The nearest D1 FBS programs are between 85 and 120 miles away (Cal-Berkeley, Stanford, SJ State, Nevada-Reno). And none of those programs are world-beaters.

SAC supported the KINGS for decades, setting sell-out records even when the team was REALLY bad. The Sac Republic soccer team has a nice following and the A's games will sell-out for the 3-4 years at minimum that they will be in town.

If Sac State promotes to the top level of the college sports landscape and programs recognizable to the average fans starts showing up on-campus (or Golden 1 Center) --- people will come, Ray. People will most definitely come.

Your football attendance is currently declining.

Your president was so "forward thinking", none of this was ever brought up or presented to the public at all until literally at the last moment when the carrot of potential Pac-12 expansion finally started, and it looks like they hastily threw everything together in the last few weeks.

If Sac had put these plans out last year when the Pac went to 2 members and had started breaking ground and making changes then, I'd believe you, but this all just seems like bullshit to drum up media coverage.

If you don't get an FBS invite, are they just scrapping all these plans? My guess is probably, which is a real bad look. I don't think your school saying "Yeah, we're a 2nd-tier school in a 3rd-tier D1 conference even after reaching the most success we've ever seen in our program's history, but don't worry, Pac-12, if you let us in, we'll surely suddenly stop being a middling FCS program. All we need is a seat at the table and some money (we promise it's real)" is the pitch that's going to land with a major FBS conference, and the college football world is clowning you guys now, for good reason.

I honestly hope it works out for you guys, but I don't think anyone is being honest or serious here if they think this is going to get Sac into the Pac-12.

We're razing the current stadium at the end of this season, there is no "if" pertaining to new Hornet Stadium. Anyone in the construction space knows projects this big (and expensive) don't happen on a whim. The planning, permitting, design process....that all takes time and initial investment to even get an architecture/engineering firm on board well before a shovel hits the ground. You don't roll right into a construction project, let along a stadium project, without getting your ducks in line. I know the engineering degrees are offered in Bozeman and not Missoula, but thought maybe someone on this board would have a certificate of applied science (whatever that is) from your construction management program to inform you on how major construction projects work.

From the CBS News release on the stadium renderings earlier this week:
Sacramento State President Luke Wood said funding for the new stadium will come from student fees, alumni donations, sponsorships, and California State University revenue bonds that the board of trustees will vote on in November.

Regarding the NIL money, I take the "$35M raised in 24 hours" as more of a PR tag line. It's pretty clear that this effort has been in the works since the day President Wood came on board 14 months ago. I think he and his team have been cultivating those monies and support from various area stakeholders for this stadium/FBS effort during that timeframe.

Too many things (stadium effort, FBS push, NIL commitments, student fee increase, Well renovation, Golden1 use) have come into place for all of this to be on a whim. Whether or not this all culminates in and FBS invite is still in the balance, but the stadium is happening.

Also if winning 3 of the last 4 BSC titles is "middling" then I'll take it.
 
With only about 5,000 expected attendees in a space built for 25,000 fans, Sac State has a real opportunity to reshape stadium design for the 21st century. Are there any design renderings with king or queen sized mattresses in place of traditional bleachers?

I’m confident that many mattress companies would be all over this. Just imagine Sealy Posturepedic® Stadium on the campus of Sac State as the shining star of the crime ridden Sacramento area.

Where are football games going to be played while the new stadium is being constructed? According to the articles I read, the new stadium isn't expected to be complete until 2028 but there is no mention of where games would be played in the interim.

We haven’t had a single game under 10,000 in four years, and will average 15,000+ in a shithole with boring opponents in 2024. 25-35k will be perfect size to move up and play teams people in the area actually care about.

I’ve been posting here for a long time, and based on what I know about this board - and the status on an invite for SAC…. We are going to see an all time eGriz meltdown, the likes we haven’t seen since Ryan Kessman’s Nissan Murano got stuck in the snow for all time.
