NIL era

It's college football...

I get your larger point.

The more the college game trends toward the pro game...the worse it will get. Just my opinion.

To me the kid who quits on his team mid-season is an entitled, unhireable twit.
You're the entitled twit. Your soldier schtick only goes so far. It's about time the players get what's coming to them and not just exploited for a scholarship.

Where is the line? It has to be semis or NC game, otherwise it’s OK to quit?
Ridiculous...

I explained my position above. It is self evident - one decision has full support of teammates and one does not.

We don't see players making business decisions when competing for a natty. We see them all the time for regular bowl games.

We never or almost never see a player quit mid-season...

Anyway - you guys enjoy your position - and I'll live nicely on my island.

Friggin world has gone insane.

Didn’t we have a player enter the portal in the middle of our Natty run just last year?

And didn’t NDSU have more than a couple do the same?
Young was a true freshman and didn’t play except for the Utah Tech game when his family was in attendance. NDSU guys entered the portal when it was announced their coach was leaving and their offensive coordinator wasn’t going to get the job, so they took opportunities elsewhere.

I think McKay leaving the cats before the playoffs even started in 2021 was the worst example of quitting on a team that I’ve ever seen in regards to postseason as he was the starting qb and team leader for them all year. Might be my favorite example because it sure looked like the Griz made him quit.

I would argue that you are getting more worked up over this than the teammates. Every college athlete understands that as much as the team matters, each young man doing what is best for himself also matters. College athletics isn't the same as military combat.

You really think teammates don't support a first round draft pick sitting out the Wild Wings Bowl game?

C'mon man...
But at which bowl do we draw the line? The Rose Bowl doesn't have NC implications every year, but it's still a pretty important game . . . Cotton? Is it Cotton? Anything below Cotton you're not a quitter, Cotton or above you are a quitter. We need a clear set of rules on quitters v. businessmen.

Playoff bowls.

Like I said - I am good with my stance on this. You don't have to be.

His teammates posted a bunch of stuff about the new starter...."about time." Etc.

They clearly care.

I don't give 2 shits about the quitter or UNLV for that matter...

It's the simple principle involved.

Got it. So, playoff bowl=quitter. Non-playoff bowl=non-quitter.
And, of course, preserving one's redshirt when a school doesn't hold up its end of a deal=quitter.

I think we're all on the same page now.

Very lazy summary - as you know. I know you are trying hard to make a point. I dont think it lands like you want. Teammates matter - their perspective is the context and nuance you miss - again, as you know. You've told me before I was far better than something I posted...I appreciated the feedback.
Here, there is no question you are better than the summary above.

Also, I am not on a page. I am on an island enjoying my perspective on this.
