It was a nice win

After getting run over on the first 2 drives, the Griz stabilized and rallied. Never got rattled. Griz had 24 straight points at one point. Griz first 3 drives were 5, 26 and 0 yards, with the last one being the pick. Bobby: ""Being down 17 to that team, with that offense, was scary to say the least. It was a gut-check, steely-eyed, stare adversity in the face game, and the Griz came out with a resounding W. So that was awesome."

The Griz wore Western Carolina down on both sides of the ball, perhaps even starting in the 3d quarter

Nice strong UM running game, except on a few plays when we got stuffed. 175 yards and 12.5 per carry by Gillman. Some great tough short runs by Ostmo, making 1 or 2 into 3 or 4.

552 TO to 447. Very nice production by the O, including 349 on the ground for 7.3 per rush.

QB’s were both pretty good. Bad pick by Ah Yat. 4 TD’s on ground by him, the most in UM history for a QB. Fife hit some key short passes later in game. 16-27, Ah Yat; 7-10- Fife. Ah Yat was 11-57 running,

Just after I told my wife that the Griz receivers weren’t making enough tough catches, they started making tough catches. Particularly Bergen. And shout out to Racanelli for 4 clutch possession catches. Against tougher competition, the receivers need to make more tough catches. Bergen had some nice catches. Shout out to Raccanelli for 4 nice possession catches, perhaps all for first downs.

12 and 11 penalties and over 100 yards for both teams. Some bad reffing at times. The late hit call on Wilson was total BS. The missed offsides on WC. Some friends told me that the call that Bergen got on WC sidelines may have been a bad call. UM had 5 penalties in first quarter, and I think 3 in the first 4.5 minutes.

175 yards and 12.5 carry by Gillman. Some tough short runs by Ostmo, stretching 1/2 into 3/4.

The WC QB was very accurate, especially shorter. Mixed on long passes. He started out hot at 14-16. Then, 5-18 to finish half, and 11-31 to finish game. 25-47 overall. 340 yards. One receiver had 8 for 229. He was 22-35 against No. Caro. St, with no interceptions.

Morrison averaged 50 yards punting. Both punters had 4 punts. HIs kicking lots good too.

Lee and Tirrell had 11 and 10 tackles. Rostad had 5 tackles. Good for him.

Several players said after game that WC was a good team. WC looked good.

What a great day for football. 25,720 and long game at 3:38.

I hope Ah Yat is fine. I didn’t notice Griz injuries.

Both the Griz O and D are coming on. 46 point and 552 yards is a lot. There is still much to improve, on both sides of the ball. But the team is definitely improving and has more potential. Both QB’s are improving and looking pretty good or good.

Hauck said. "There is obviously progress being made each week. We're not there yet, but those guys are getting better and better. I was proud of Keali'i, and I was proud of Logan coming in and doing the stuff he does really well in the fourth quarter."

"Logan Fife finished out the final two drives for Montana, his only two drives of the game. Hauck said they went to Fife because "the stuff we wanted to do at that point is the stuff that Logan does best." His first drive closed with a 34-yard field goal by Ty Morrison to go up 38-27 with 12:12 left in the game." Missoulian.

The WC coach complimented Ostmo for being a tough runner and picking up tough yards when he was in for the last drive. Also complimented Fife for making some nice passes.

Said the d-line, and I think he meant backers too, were long and athletic. Said the pass rough got tougher on them in the second half.

He liked how his team played and thinks they will be ready for the conference season. Said his qb had hurt a shoulder, maybe a slight separation.

Said it was a great atmosphere.

On the offsides by WCU's defense that was not called by the line judge, Hauck offered him his (sun)glasses. Hiliarious! The line judge did not think so, but did not pull his hanky. The entire crowd in the vicinty saw the offsides, erupted in boos and then laughter when Hauck made his offering.

I loved that he called ostmo a finisher and made it seem like that was the only series he was in all game. Through all his complaining to the refs he apparently didn’t notice that Nick had some great runs throughout the game.

I wonder if it was on that late hit. I kind of thought he was acting with him punching the ground in front of the ref and rolling around in pain, only to go back in the next play. Maybe he wasn’t. That guy made some excellent completions.

It for sure was. Right about when his play dropped too.

What was BS about the late hit call? Or I guess, which one? The first one couldn’t have been more obvious.

Both penalties on hits on the WC QB were good calls. On the late hit Wilson drove him back five yards and slammed him into the ground with all his body weight. (The WC coach said he gat a 2nd degree separation on his left shoulder.) And, the targeting call was legitimate. I thought he could have knocked him out with his helmet under his chin. I thought both were dirty hits and totally uncalled for.

That is funny. Didn’t see it. Thx.

I don’t agree. He didn’t drive him back 5 yards. It was 7 yards.

One thing of concern. Slow starts for the offense. I am hopeful that will change. One thing that was very nice to see. Defensive coordinators made adjustments in the second half. Very well done and WC’s lack of offense showed it.
Griz had problem with dig route early, Hauck said.

When you are running full speed, it’s not possible to stop fast. Your momentum causes you to keep moving.
I understand that. He got the penalty for driving him into the ground. They’re all taught that when the ball is out, you let off. He continued for several yards and drove the QB into the ground, injuring the QB. Driving the QB into the ground is what got the penalty.

Objectively, if that same play happened to Ah Yat, a lot of people here would call it dirty. Wilson’s head was up the entire time, like it should be, he saw the ball get out of the QB’s hand. It was a stupid play.

Again, I don’t agree. Football is a rough game. He got a good hit on the qb. The qb threw right and turned a bit right and was off balance. The momentum carried the play and player. Bobby appeared to complain to the ref about the call.

I judge the play from having played football and been in the same position a number of times. When you're coming full speed and arrive as the ball is thrown, and are off balance yourself, your momentum carries you. Sometimes it's almost impossible to back off. Again, I said the call was BS and I disagreed with it. I didn't say the call or you were wrong. Even the targeting looked marginal to me, as it was called more on how the qb's head rocked back than on a hard hit to the head. Most of the helmet, but not the top, was under the facemark and chin. I don't like the extent of targeting calls. Sometimes things just happen in football, and sometimes they look worse than they were.
